Hi all! My husband and I are planning to take a trip to Turkey (his home country) in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we succeeded at bad timing on this one--we'll be sending the documents off to remove conditions on his two-year green card right before we leave, and his green card expires the VERY DAY we return... yeah, maybe we should think through our travel plans a little better next time! Anyway, I'm worried about how we'll take care of the requirement to do biometric processing, because we'll be in Turkey during that time. Is it possible to do the biometrics there somehow, maybe at a US embassy or consulate, or is it possible to put them off until we come back after the green card's expiration date? I'm planning on having my dad mail us the I-797 receipt for the documents we'll be sending to USCIS, so hopefully that will be enough to let my husband back into the US, but what about biometrics? Has anyone had any experience with this sort of situation?

No biometrics taking at US embassy or consulate. People who are military can do that on their base but for those in your situation, it's at ASC where you are assigned to.

You can leave the package with someone you trust to mail a month or so before the GC expires and have them watch your mail for NOA1 and fedex it to you in Turkey - that should cover you for entry to the US even though as long as GC is valid CBP should let you in. Biometrics notice should follow couple of weeks after NOA1.

I'd check previous ROC filers timelines so you know how long NOA1 takes these days...

That's an idea I hadn't thought of... So in this case, we're arriving back in the US on the 17th of August, and his green card expires on the 17th of August. Does that mean his card is valid through the end of the 17th or that it stops being valid as soon as it becomes the 17th?

Make an Infopass appointment and see if you can bring the biometrics appointment forward (or get one issued before you leave). The less you have to worry, the better. :)

Traveling and ROC is a hassle, we never had a bio due to a I90 request a few months before, unfornately we cannot track our case now.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
