How was your AOS interview?

Hi,

I'm going to have my AOS interview on Dec 12, finally. I'm just curious about the process of the interview.

1. What questions did the officer ask you?

2. Were you asked questions separately?

3. Did they tell you whether your case is approved or not at the end?

4. Was the officer nice?

In my case the officer asked questions seperately, but did not seperate us. She made it clear: "When I ask your wife - you don't speak, when I speak to you, your wife doesn't speak". It wasn't a conversation, it was an interrogation.

My interviewing officer was not nice no, she was professional and somewhat stern. Yes, she told me that I was approved at the end of the interview (not that I have my GC yet).

Questions she asked were pretty simple, what were my inlaws names, had my wife met my parents, why my wife hadn't changed her surname, the "no questions".

All in all the process took about 15 mins.

All the questions the officer asked me were from the time I met my wife till when we got married. I lived in the United States for 10 years, the officer cared less. He asked questions liked how we met. When we call each other. Who came to the wedding. When we saw each other. My Wife is from Houston, TX and I am from Ohio, he asked the dates we saw each other before got married. No questions were asked after we got married.

2. Were you asked questions separately? We were questioned together for about 15 minutes. Then questioned us separately for 45 minutes.

3. Did they tell you whether your case is approved or not at the end? Yes.

4. Was the officer nice? No. He twisted the questions he asked. For example I told him that I am the one who proposed her. He asked me again whether she proposed to me? Another example would be I told him I called her at night. He asked her whether I called during other times of the day. My wife said answered yes. Surely we made short phone calls during day time. But I’ve heard most offices are nice, but unfortunately we got an officer who was not nice.

Although our interview was four years ago now, I remember thinking after it was completed "Well, what was all the fuss about?"

The woman was pretty monotone, no personality, her office was a mess, she had food all down the front of her blouse! She had trouble locating the file under the pile of trash on her desk. It wasn't quite the "official" environment I had expected.

She only asked how we met and the date of our marriage. She then stamped my passport and told us that I would receive my GC in the mail.

She didn't ask us any "trick" questions - I don't think she was really too bothered. All the questions had been answered by the papers we submitted with the application. She didn't look at the tax papers, she didn't look at the photographs of the wedding, nothing.

I guess everyone's experience is different, depending on the level of professionalism of the person carrying out the interview. Personally, I was amazed that she even had a job there, but I'm not complaining! lol

I wasnt asked any questions.

All he asked for was for my BC, passport and verified my address and phone number.

Then asked if it was my signature on the forms I sent in.

Our interview was a couple days ago.

Simple questions, mostly the stuff on the forms. How we met. Nothing hard at all. Our interviewer was really nice, pleasent, well spoken lady perhaps in her mid 30s. She was even understanding when I told her it was difficult for us to prove our relationship because the banks wouldn't allow my wife on my accounts until I had her SS#, no bank accounts so I couldn't get any utlility bills in our name etc. She didn't even mind when I helped my wife understand a question or 2 that she was asking. (I know how to phrase a question so my wife understands) She kept one copy of our health insurance card that was issued to both of us and told us we were approved. The entire interview was about 10 minutes.

It was a huge none event, if dealing with everyone was that easy life would be great.

well mine was easy it was a gentle man.. he did not separate us.. he ask basic questions like how we meet ..did we get married before the 90 days..where my husband work. our home phone number & address.. it was quick and after that he took my index finger for a print and stamp my passport..then he congratulate me and said your approve , Just wait for your gc to arrive..

1. What questions did the officer ask you?

When and where did you make POE on the K1. Was it an easy process, what paperwork did you hand over and how long did it take.

How did you meet.

We had to wait 90 minutes before being called, for an interview lasting 10 minutes. I think they were backlogged and were trying to catch up.

2. Were you asked questions separately?

Not really. Even though we were in the same room, questions were roughly directed towards me, but nothing was mentioned about my wife not being allowed to answer.

3. Did they tell you whether your case is approved or not at the end?

Nope.

We were just told 'If everything checks out ok, then you'll receive a notification in the next few weeks'.

The case was approved after two days, and the card arrived after two weeks.

4. Was the officer nice?

Very. Not intimidating, but professional and doing her job. No emotions shown which could lead to us thinking the case was or wasn't going to be approved.

Ours was in Boston in July, wicked easy. We waited for a long time in the waiting room and when we went in the woman said, "Sorry you had to wait so long, I was looking over your case and the good thing is, I'm approving you." Right off the bat, no questions or anything! Then she just went through some forms with us, asked James some questions right off a sheet like "Do you plan to commit acts of terrorism?" but it was clear from her tone of voice that it was all formality. Then she stamped his passport and said you can expect your GC in the mail soon.

1. When did you get married? How did you meet? (Husband shared our story)

2. Nope.

3. Yes. I was also told all my paperwork was in order, and my FBI name check was complete.

4. Very pleasant. He also gave me the I-551 stamp in my passport when I asked for it because I had an appointment at an employment agency after my AOS interview, and I needed proof of status since the officer took my EAD card.

I could give you the full blown run down of our interview, but I'll keep it brief.

1. Our address, phone numbers, my parent's names, if either one of us had been married previously, if either one of us had children from previous relationships, if Jerry still worked for the same employer and at the same salary, the "yes/no questions" in the AOS form, and asked for proof of our bonafide relationship. He specifically asked if we had a lease or mortgage agreement in both our names.

2. Not really. We both were in the room, and the officer directed questions at both of us, depending on what he wanted to know.

3. No, I wasn't told I was officially approved, since part of my official file was at that point missing (the officer wasn't sure if it was somewhere in the district office building, or still at the Texas Service Centre). The officer couldn't say one way or another, so he didn't. He did, however, hint strongly that I probably would be approved.

4. Our officer was professional, but not rude; nice, but not chitterchattery.

Our officer was a man and he was fairly nice. I could tell he was genuinely a pretty good person. He seemed fair. He asked us very few questions and told us we were approved. The interview only lasted maybe 10 minutes. Try not to be nervous, if possible. It is a waste of time because the interview most likely will not be as bad as you think. At least, ours wasn't a tenth of how horrible we worried it would be, and our case was NOT an easy one either! Best of luck to you, you'll be so relieved when it's over!
