Hello May 2013 Filers!

I am a bit behind in joining the thread - filed our I-130 in early May, and received our NOA with a priority date of May 21 2013. Today is 21 June (for me in Australia) so it's been a month! My husband (who is the US Citizen) and I have lived in Australia since 2004 and we're relocating back to the US to be closer to his family. We have one daughter who is 18 months old and have been married since 2010. Obviously hoping to receive the NOA2 as soon as possible but also very nervous about the next stage! We feel we are going to have some difficulty with the I-864 since my huisband has lived in Australia so long and hasn't earned a salary/filed taxes in the US for almost 9 years! So we'll be doing lots of research about the Affidavit of Support and looking for any tips from anyone else who is in the same situation as us (both petitioner and beneficiary living abroad)! Also, any info on how we can check how the NBC timeframes are going (if ours is to stay at the NBC for processing)?

Thanks everyone!

Ange

I am right there with you as far as the Affidavit of Support go. I am a recent graduate and I will only start working (a full time job - for the first time in my life) next week. I have been in school for so long, and finally it has all paid off. I haven't filed any tax returns in over 4 years because of my graduate schooling. Hopefully we can all be of help here..to each other. :)

Good luck!!

Welcome! :)

We are also filing from abroad (IR1) with a priority date of May 13th and will have a similar issue with the I-864, since the only income from the past few years is from Finland. Husband just filed U.S taxes for 2012, in order to show that we plan on establishing domicile in the U.S. As for the support issue, mother-in-law will co-sponsor since otherwise we won't be able to show that we have enough income.

By the way, do you guys know if the beneficiary has to explain what they plan on doing in the U.S? Like if they plan to work/study/be a homemaker? Or is this just a question they ask, if they ask, and don't expect any proof? I'm not yet sure what I want to do, whether I will pursue a doctorate or just stay home with our child and was wondering if I need to make up my mind so to speak before moving :) If this is part of establishing domicile, I will probably start applying for PhD programs just in case.

Good luck everyone! Anxious to hear who gets NOA2 first!

IR1 took 520 days....

Thank you! Do you know if it makes any difference, if I write my planned occupation as homemaker instead of an actual profession? I mean will it be considered establishing domicile just like any other occupation?
