Hello,

My husband (a Canadian citizen) has been in the US on an F1 visa for several years; we just recently got married and I now have an I-20 with which to cross the border. I am also a Canadian citizen. I am looking over Customs Form 3299 and have a few questions that I am hoping someone can answer.

In Part 1 where it asks importer's date and port of arrival, is this *my* information (ie, the information for the flights I will be taking, separate from my unaccompanied goods), or is the date/port of arrival for the company importing my goods? A post on here from several years ago suggested it's the latter, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me as my understanding is that *I* am the importer and the moving company is the carrier (whose information is written in Part 1 Question 8?)

If it is indeed my own flight information, what do you write for port of arrival if you go through pre-clearance at a Canadian airport? Do I write the location in Canada where I go through pre-clearance, the initial city in the US that I land in, or my final US destination?

Finally, for Part 1, Question 7 where it says "names of accompanying household members", does this refer only to those who are accompanying me as I cross the border, or does it include both my husband (already in the US on his visa) and my child (will still be in Canada for another month, and will enter later on her visa)?

Thank you! This form is really confusing me (although I know I have nothing to complain about given how overall painless this has been for us).

I found this form VERY stressful, so no worries! I didn't want my stuff lost during my move and didn't help the form isn't very clear.

Date of arrival: day YOU are entering the country, not your stuff.

Importers port arrival: I put YVR airport on mine, as I went through customs there

Arriving Vessel: I put my flight info

Question 7: not sure, I was by myself

Question 8 is for the moving/shipping company. I left it blank for them.

this video helped me.. somewhat

all fails - contact US customs. I did through email.. it took like a couple weeks for them to get back to me.

Thank you so much for your answer (the notification got caught in my spam filter so I didn't see until now!). My moving company is telling me that I should be putting the port of arrival of my goods, which just seems... not accurate. I would imagine they should know given they do it regularly, but everything else suggests it should be about me.

For the list of your goods, did you just attach a packing list, or did you write in the space provided and actually estimate the value? I can't begin to imagine how to calculate that, ha.

yeah.. they are the ones with the goods crossing the border!

I did a separate packing list - 2 pages extra. You have to put the estimated value and whats in each box. I just guessed really for value. One of my friends had to do similar when she moved from Japan, and she just put $1 for everything that wasn't valuables (ie, clothes).
