prepping the scans I got of the civil docs.

geez - this is fun !

one tool that's useful, once it's in pdf format - is

http://www.cutepdf-editor.com/

as I use it to put headers on each page of each civil doc, the casefile # and 'what it is' ...

the scans we made in wuhan, a million years ago (it seems) were all saved to hi res jpg format.

so that's 1 page per file.

I've been converting them to fax-tif file format using IrFanView,

then in windows explorer, selecting all, then right-click, print, selecting the cutepdf printer device

then the windows photo printing wizard pops up.

It's a bit tricky, to get the order right, but eventually I'm getting the order right.

converting to fax-tif file makes each page about 39K, so far.

once i have the pdf file generated, i threw it into the pdf editor at http://www.cutepdf-editor.com/ and added the header...

whew. I'm focusing on free tools here that work on this crappy machine (xp pro sp2 ) so maybe this will help somebody..

Darnell,

I am putting the list together now as well, but just to confirm your previous post, your item number 1 and 4, both says cover letter. I assume this is the Cover Sheet with bar code right?

Also here is the list I am putting basically the same, but let me know if I need all them or missing anything. Thanks

All following will be in PDF format and zipped in a folder sending to <NVCElectronic@state.gov>
1. Cover Letter/Bar Code
2. I-864 & DS - 230
3. Tax transcript for 2010 and 2011. AND 2012 H&R Block tax return copy with the IRS local office stamp (case received)
5. Employment Letter from HR indicate my salary and starting date
6. Payment Receipts for IV Case AOS Fee (wife and I)
Also I assume I can send all the above from my email account, correct?
Thanks!

Yup, that's the GUZ IV P3 Supplemental, and is not optional.

Is referenced in the wiki at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Electronic_Processing#Digital_scans_of_supplemental_stuff

and

somewhere at the NVC web site (where I got the link from)

It's not optional. It's an ugly form, to be certain.

Good to see some more updates here, and seems to be moving it pretty fast too goofy.gif

If anyone uses mac or linux, I'd recommend using ghostscript for the pdf-stuff (which typically comes pre-installed)

gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dPDFSETTINGS=/ebook -sOutputFile=output.pdf input1.pdf input2.pdf input3.pdf

The "ebook" setting (I think 200 dpi) seemed to work pretty good for me, got all 200 pages of the IV package down to 10 MB. Looks like these utilities for windows do a pretty good job too.

Looking forward to some more updates soon!
