Just got a text and email about this. I searched around but it seems no one knows for sure what this can mean. From what I read it can be a good thing meaning that my petition is being looked at/touched, and it could mean an NOA2 right around the corner. My NOA1 was received Oct, 29, 2012. I will be creating a timeline this weekend. I will call USCIS next week to try and check what this means.

Now this leads to a question I have. How long can I delay receiving and using the visa? I never thought I would be wanting to do this, and it kills me to do it, but the visa journey for me and my Fiance has taken over a year now due to my initial submission beind denied due to lack of evidence. Of course it took them 5 months to tell me. Because of the denial, I took some time and gathered every possible thing I could and just refiled. Meanwhile my Fiance has continued with school. She recently started her 4th year of college and we both feel at this point it would be better for her to finish and graduate there instead of coming here and needing to repeat most of what she has already done. The original plan was for her to take a year or 2 of school there and then go here and finish. Of course this was before I found this great site and knew what I was doing, so the visa journey has taken a lot longer than originally planned. From what I have read after searching around, I think we can take 4 months to schedule an interview and medical, and once the medical is done, 6 months to use the visa. I read that I can contact someone and get an extension for the interview, is that true and how would I do it? Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a USCIS site or something that explains how to do this?

Thanks.

After you applied for your visa, did you request an address change? If so, that is probably why you received the text. In August I applied and upon receiving the NOA1, I noticed my fiance's name wasn't complete. I sent in a letter requesting the change in his file. I didn't hear anything until the day before my petition was approved, but it said something similar, "Your name was changed relating to the I-129F." So, that is my assumption for the unusual text.

As for the other, we will also be trying to wait for my fiance to arrive until next summer. I'll be with him in Egypt June and July this summer, and he is in a training session that will go through next year. It's a tough decision for us as well. As for the extension, I don't have solid information. However, what I've gathered is for the extension on the NOA2, your fiance should contact the consulate prior to its expiration requesting the extension, and it would be great for you to generate your a letter stating your continued support of the application. I think (not sure) you will also contact the consulate to request an extension of the visa if needed.

No I did not request any address change. That is what initially concerned me, but from the posts I have found were others have received the same notification, they did not request any change also. I think someone who called USCIS was told it was a mistake, which is why I plan on calling next week to check on it.

Once we receive an NOA2, I will have my Fiance contact the consulate there and I will do the same. I need to contact them about her phone number change also.

As tough of a decision that it is to wait, I feel in the long run it will be better. I have known her now for over 6 years, so I guess a little while longer will not be too bad. I plan to go back in a few months to be with her for the embassy interview, so I can at least look forward to seeing her again before she finally comes here early next year.

How long can I delay receiving and using the visa? , 6 months to use the visa.

Once your petition is approved by the USCIS, it's valid for four months. Before your petition expires, you can extend it's validity for another four months by emailing the U.S. Embassy Manila (USEM) and requesting it.

The Embassy will extend the validity of your petition once or twice more beyond the first extension if you request it. They Embassy is pretty good about extending petitions if you keep them informed.

Then, once you complete the medical and the interview, and the visa is issued, the visa will be valid for six months from the date of the medical. Generally, the medical is completed a week or two before the interview.

If there are problems with the medical, such as testing for TB, then it will extend the time before the interview another few months. In that case, you'll have three months less time to use the visa.

Here's the USEM email address: http://manila.usembassy.gov/mobile/wwwh3230.html

I just received an email that my petition was APPROVED! smile.pngdancin5hr.gif

Now I'm curious what the address change noticifaction earlier today was about. I hope they don't send the NOA2 to the wrong address. I will call on Monday to check.
