Dear VJers,

I will have my interview at the Consulate in Naples, Italy, in a few weeks and I am planning my trip. After reading over time the contributions on VisaJourney, I am confused about when the passport is going to be ready for pickup following the interview, if successful. Is it on the same day (Tuesday) in the afternoon or is it on the following day (Wednesday)? If you have gone through the process, could you also confirm the time when the passport can be picked up? Only after 5pm? Any earlier?

I'll take this chance to thank who came up with the idea of creating this online community and all the people that take the time to share their experiences. It has been of unvaluable help and support!

You might want to read the Consulate reviews, in case you haven't done it already: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Italy

The number of days the passport is ready for pickup varies from case to case (it's usually 1-3 if approved on the spot, but it can be more if you are required to go back for a second interview or are put in AP).

In general, it's not advisable to make specific travel plans before having the visa in hand. You can have your passport+visa shipped to your address if you don't intend to wait for it in Naples.

Good luck!

When they told me I was approved they also added "your passport should be ready tomorrow after 5pm...."

My understanding is that, with all going well, your passport will be ready the following day at 5pm at the mail boxes etc. that is not too far from the consulate.

Hope it helps, and good luck with the interview :-)

When my visa was approved I was told to pick it up the following day after 5 pm. It was actually issued 3 days after and i got it in the mail exactly one week after my interview. I think they tell everybody the same thing but apparently it is common that there is a delay in printing the visas and dropping them at the mail box location. Just to make sure I would wait to hold the visa in your hands before making travel plans. Good luck on your interview! wink.png

Thank you all for the information! I have planned to stay in Naples till the day following the interview. I hope the interview will be successful and I'll get the passport in my hands before I leave town, but I'll be ready to receive it in the mail instead.

Eli & Dan, I'll move back to Portland, Oregon to rejoin my husband. There might be a chance to cross paths some day, maybe through the local Italian community. Congratulations on your marriage!
