New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is swatting down criticism from GOP ranks that he isn’t conservative enough, saying in an interview airing Friday that he’s a “damn good Republican.”

...
“Listen, I think very well. I’ll worry about the presidency if and when I ever decide to run for it. But if you’re saying to me, ‘How do I feel as a Republican?’ I’m a damn good Republican and a good conservative Republican who believes in the things that I believe in,” Christie answered in the interview, which will air on NBC’s “Rock Center” at 10 p.m. EST on Friday.

He continued: “But that does not mean that I would ever put party before my state or party before my country.”

The time is right for an Independent to win the Presidency. The Repubs have fallen by the wayside and after 2 terms by the Dems, a lot of people will be looking for something different. Christie should tell the Repubs to stick it and run as an Independent.

Running as an independent is probably the only way he'll get elected. The Republican party will never nominate him, unless he pulls a 2008 McCain move and goes all RWNJ. Then the Democrat nominee will win the general election. Republicans will never win another presidential election until they stop taking orders from the bible thumpers and gun nuts.

His chances have long been killed. He helped the anti-Christ win re-election. The First Lady thinks Christie is "terrific". And he is pushing for tighter gun control in a state that already has one of the tightest gun controls in the country. These things knocked him out. He can run from them in 2016 but he won't be able to hide from them. True Murkans elect the Republican nominee. And true Murkans won't forget these grave and deadly sins that Christie committed.

That might actually work.

Bush was a two term President. Obama is a most likely going to be able to finish his second term. I wouldn't be declaring a trend yet. The latest "streak" belongs to the Republicans when they held the White House for 12 years - Reagan Bush.

That immediately disqualifies him as 'conservative enough' in the eyes of the GOP...

Yeah good point. Although I don't see the Democrats putting up someone like Dukakis in 2016.

You never know. Democrats aren't a monolith by any stretch of the imagination. All it takes is a fortuitous turn of events for the 'sane' vote to get split and have some insane Occupier end up the victor.

Christie may be a good Republican and Conservative, but he's not a good GOP member. How dare he put state and country ahead of his GOP counterparts?

I enjoy watching Christie. Some things I agree with, some things I don't, but I respect his willingness to stray from party lines when he feels it's best for his constituents to do so.
