most of my high school years i went to school in pakistan so to answer your question about being raised in the USA.........i dont know as much as i should about somethings and this is one of themsmile.png

sadly the teacher did state after he said that ........that he was covered by the right to free speech after a student asked him if he thought that was a little harsh and wouldnt it make problems for him guess we will see this morning how the school feels about it.......

well then, i would definitely talk to his boss. and i would make it a point to not specify which group he thinks should be held in concentration camps but the concentration camp comment itself is offensive - i would try to stick to that comment in my compliant. otherwise you'll probably get brushed off..unfortunately.

i don't think the teacher discriminated, he was asked his opinion and he gave it in an immature and ignorant manner - especially for a teacher. a responsible adult entrusted to guide children should know better than to let fear and emotion dictate his ability to reason.

My thing is, if he feels that way about all muslims, and her daughter is one, how would she be able to learn in an environment that she knows full well what her teacher thinks about her religion. If I knew my supervisor thought all black folks should be in chains, we'd have some issues.

smile.png its my youngest sister not daughter........all of us have pretty tough skin when it comes to comments......the last five of us kids are adopted two full black two bi-racial add all of that into being muslim.......you have to be able to let things roll of your back....but the concentration camp thing and lumping all muslims together by a teacher mmm not good.

if she were my daughter, i'd hope she'd want to talk to the teacher herself. sometimes ignorant people don't understand how their ignorance effects others, until they're forced to see it.

and yeah, you'd have issues with your boss - but would you quit if he wasn't fired? or would you try and find some common ground so you both could go about your business..

Sorry for the mistake.

Normally I would try to find a common ground if you have an issue with me. But when it comes to the whole race or religion, I know that folks just see the negative and it will come into play at the worst times. I would want him removed or I would have to go.

well, yeah. you're right. working with a racist would be a bigger deal for me if i wasn't white.

i do wonder if excluding racists instead of attempting to help them grow personally doesn't make the matter worse in the long run. kind of like how it was real easy for me to be a homophobe until the matter became personal; my grandparents were set in their ways until they had biracial grandchildren, etc.

I agree that education works and you've seen on this board how people like yourself and I have tried to teach those who are ignorant and full of hatred turn out. If my boss had that perception that we are all lazy, shiftless, classless bums, and I could change that by leading by example, I'm all for it. But you have folks that believe what they beleive and nothing you can do or say can change that.

I would like to think that the idiot teacher will be fired when you bring this incident up with the principal. I can't see a high school teacher getting away with a comment like that in a classroom. At the very least a suspension and apology letter is in order with a verbal apology to his class as well.

I would go to a lawyer asap. I see a multi-million dollar lawsuit here.

Not everyone is after a handout. But schools, especially public ones, are not usually permitted to be beacons of discrimination. I'd agree Sara's family should demand action from the principal and/or the school board. This should be enough to address the issue. If they don't intervene on her sister's behalf and the idiot teacher continues inserting his personal beliefs into lessons, then a lawyer's advice should be sought.

If he were up in front of the class teaching that all Muslims should be put in concentration camps, then he will definitely be in trouble. But, when asked a specific questions, teachers are usually allowed to voice their opinion. Of course, a lot will depend on what state this happened.

as adults its our responsibility to raise children to not be bias against any religion, nationality or gender........defeating prejudice begins in the home then comes from the school as they have all of our children more waking hours a day than we do.........
