police report for Moscow embassy

Some have told me that I don't need my police certificate translated, but others say the opposite. Is this a new requirement or a requirement that is not enforced? I double checked the Moscow embassy website and it does say all documents must be translated into English. I called the Embassy 1-800# and was told it has to be translated.

I am curious if anyone translated their police certifcate? (or if others didn't and still passed.)

It is a well known fact that each consulate's local procedure is different. Since you spoke directly to the consulate why would you think the information you received was incorrect?

YMMV

Documents need to be translated. I was under the impressin the police report is not considered a document. That you need the birth certificate and divorce decree transalted. That you do not need the police report translated. I did a K-1 with the Moscow Embasy last year with a police report that was not translated and had no problems.

However if they say it needs to be translated then they should know. Perhaps the regulations have changed.

We did for the same reason you stated, and for peace of mind. We also had non Russian police certificates that we knew would need translation. Translation services in Russia are very cheap so why not?

ok thanks. Just wanted to share this with everyone and see what they thought. The funny thing is my lawyer says anyone can translate it as long as it's not a family member. They also have to sign a oath saying their english is good enough. (she sent me this form)

I let my fiancee take care of it. She had no problem finding people to do it.

When I get home I will ask her about it.
