Hey everyone,

I'm confused because I thought the visa stage was something along these lines http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_bring_your_foreign_spouse_to_live_in_the_US#Step_3_.E2.80.93_I-130_Approval_Notice

But I see on others timelines that the NVC is sometimes just a place holder for the petition. Like, they send it to the NVC, and it quickly goes to the appropriate consulate without sending any info, like without the spouses sending IV packets or anything.

Why is this so? Is it just for certain countries, or does it just rarely happen?

Thanks for your help.

It is actually only for K1/fiance visa that it leaves the NVC so quickly without needing to send anything to them. All spousal visas once at the NVC will need to submit more paperwork.

Thanks for your help.

You got some bad information. You are a IR1/CR1 you will spend much time at NVC and yes they do collect and forward your Affidavit of Support package and IV Package. Also some of us send extra evidence.

This is all embassies. You must be looking ta timelines of K1's who only stop over at NVC for a case# and they are off to the Embassies for further processing.

I would strongly suggest you come here to the NVC filers thread and read Post #1 and Post #2.

What?

You pay the initial $420 for the petition

Then you pay $88 for the Affidavit of Support

Then you pay $230 for the DS-230 Iv application

After approval from the embassy/consulate you pay $165 New Immigrant Fee for the production of the green card.

I guess in total it adds up to $903.

But the beneficiary needs a medical as well and that varies by country. The beneficiary also needs to get a police clearance certificate, passport photos (at least 2 for the IV package and whatever is required by the medical) and there is also travel expenses and the final moving expenses.

I was referring to this link. I'm not sure if just being married and going through this process considers you to be a permanent resident right away, or if this step needs to be taken

No. If you complete the CR1 process the beneficiary becomes a permanent resident immediately upon POE (point of entry.) That is one of the best benefits to the CR1 process.
