Pork found in halal school burgers in UK, community "shocked" and "distressed"

LONDON: Traces of pork have been found in halal burgers served in schools in Leicester, prompting Muslim groups in the UK to consider legal action.

Leicester City Council said the tests were carried out as a result of the horsemeat scandal and now the frozen burgers have been withdrawn from schools in the East Midlands city.

"The community will be extremely shocked and distressed to learn of the contamination that has taken place," said a spokesperson from the Federation of Muslim Organizations (FMO).

"The FMO is working closely with the local authority and calling on them to take legal action in respect of this contamination and would urge the local authority to instigate criminal proceedings against the company involved under the Food Safety Act.

The majority of scholars are of the view that it is permissible to eat horses, because of the sound ahaadeeth that have been narrated concerning that.

This reminds me of something that happened a few weeks ago here:

My wife and I went to a job fair since I am going to be retiring shortly. She wanted to get some breakfast before attending, since Burger King was on the way I suggested getting a breafast croissant meal. After getting an egg and cheese croissant meal, we pulled over and she started eating it. I didn't check it since I was clear on our order it even said on the receipt egg and cheese. Once she took that first bite, she shook and said wow this is so good, what kind of meat is this? All I remember doing was saying "stop chewing", she literally spit the food out into the bag and had to swig her mouth with water. She was upset the whole day.

They try to sneak pork into lots of restaurant food down here - especially lard (in the Mexican food) or bacon (in almost everything.) You can't even safely assume something like a salad or a potato-and-egg taco will be served bacon-free - you have to ask, every single time. And inspect closely before digging in.

the only way anyone can be sure they are eating halal food is grow it kill it and butcher it yourself....... I'm Muslim but i don't understand the need to go after places that claim halal food.....if people are that worried about it stay home and eat what you know is halal or just eat vegetarian food when out....even our own butcher states that its impossible to claim halal food if the butcher is using the same tools cutting up beef or what ever after using those tools to cut up pork...if the tools have a wooden handle there is no way to make sure all blood from other animals has not gotten under it unless they take it apart........just all seems so childish to me

I get Indian Chinese food from a place that has halal certs plastered all over the wall. I have wondered why any American Muslim would care if the Muslim society of Auckland (NZ) has certified it halal or not.
