Round trip or one way ticket to Manila

I read some threads a while back about USC's going to the Philippines on a one way ticket and potential problems with that. I have been over several times and can't specifically remember anyone asking to see a return ticket before I boarded here in the states but I could be wrong about that. I'll be going for the interview and hopefully flying back together with my fiancee', so buying airline tickets is going to be tricky. I don't want to buy a round trip since I don't know if, when or how long it will take to get the visa and also it might be difficult getting her on the same flight coming back. I know I read somewhere on here that some people bought a "throw away" ticket to anywhere international from Manila which was sufficient as proof of an on going ticket so a return ticket was not necessary to show when leaving the states. Has anyone had any experience doing this or are there any other suggestions on how to handle the airfare's? Thanks in advance.

I bought a cheap throw away ticket from TigerAir in 2007, I do not remember if they checked at that time or not. I bought another throw away ticket in 2008 from CebuPacific and they did check to see if I had an onward ticket at the check in counter in Hong Kong before allowing me proceed to board a PAL flight to The Philippines.

I just bought cheap short trip tickets, say from Manila to SIngapore or to Macau.

Things may be different now though.

Good luck and have a smooth journey

Hi, I traveled back and forth to the Philippines 8 times in the past 3 years. I was asked in both Manila and Clark airports proof of onward travel 4 out of 8 times (I think). Many airlines will refuse to board you (Cebu Pacific and Tiger Airways comes in mind) if you do not show proof of onward travel or round trip ticket before check in. I recommend you look at Cebu Pacific and get a cheap P150 one way international ticket that departs Clark (In Angeles City). That way you are covered just in case.

I was asked proof of onward travel on my last trip to the Philippines on 25 March 2013.

I would book my return flight, but check to see if there is any travel insurance or fee that would allow you to make changes to your return without charges. Then when you get your visa, just make the changes! I'll try to make sure that we sit together, and my fiancee will have a window seat--heh heh! You can tell I've planned it out in my mind.

Need advice if anyone is still reading this thread. I am trying to book a cheap or throw away ticket and the only promo's I can find are for early in July. Will it be a problem if the ticket I buy is 30 days away? What I mean is aren't we technically only allowed to stay in the Phil for 21 days so will the airlines question that my onward ticket is 30 days or more away? Thanks again

I don't think so. Many people stay beyond the 21 day period and extend their visas to the 59 day visa at the local immigration office in Manila. Just tell them you will do that if they ask. Good luck!
