Hi,

My estranged wife once said she listed me as the beneficiary of her retirement fund, or whatever it might be called (she invested her retirement money in some kind of mutual fund).

I wonder how (or if) I can get the proof for my ROC package. Of course, I can't just call her and ask for a copy of the documents. She's been doing everything to make my life miserable.

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

You can't do anything because even if you are still the beneficiary you will have no access to that information. If you're going it alone, don't get her involved. Good luck!

I'm not trying to get her involved.

But as husband and wife, of course we were involved, a lot. And the USCIS requires me to prove that we were involved. Her listing me as the beneficiary is one piece of proof.

If it were me I would start by calling the brokerage company if you know the name or research names, they should be able to tell you if you are a beneficiary. It worked for me.

Good luck and keep positive.

I think she did list me as the beneficiary, Gowon.

I do know the name of the brokerage company.

if I call them will they provide me with the proof even though I am not the account owner? I will try.

Thank you.

My guess is that if the divorce is final, she has probably changed her beneficiary...if she's smart!

I don't know if she did. The divorce is not final.

What do you think about my chance of getting a copy of the papers from the brokerage company if I'm still the beneficiary?

it's a breach of confidentially honestly so I doubt you'll get anything. you don't hurt anything by trying.
