I was doing a little research about my representatives today because I plan on writing a letter to my congressmen about the severe backlog for K1 visas, and I found something interesting:

"Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Dean Heller (R-NV) announced that they have sent a letter to President Obama urging him to become personally involved and take direct action to reduce the current backlog of veterans’ disability claims. Currently, the average veterans disability claim takes over 300 days to be resolved. In their letter, which was joined by 65 other Senators, Casey and Heller cited long delays in cities across the country in making their case to the President for swift action to reduce the backlog"

the rest can be read here:

http://www.casey.senate.gov/newsroom/press/release/?id=a8b395bc-0b36-43e6-a005-8404c84ab747

Check it out, your senators might be on the list who signed it...

Just wondering what we can do to get our horror stories of government backlog some notice like that!! I think I might mention this in my letter and compare our situation to theirs. The key here is, we have to make our issue more politically charged, like veteran's services, to get some help.

We met when Heather travelled to Egypt to be an au pair!

I mean you can't compare the K-1 issue with the veteran's disability claims.. while waiting they and their family have almost no access to health provision or pensions and are waiting upwards of two years at the moment.

I would see it as quite offensive to try and jump on this bandwagon considering the misery it's causing ex-military members.

I hate having to wait 6+ months as much as everyone else but it's not as though we are all waiting, penniless, just back from the war in afghanistan, with PTSD

Just a little perspective

You're completely right, I wouldn't want to compare our situation to theirs in severity. I didn' mean any disrespect by it.... But at least we share the common thread that we are trying to use a government service (and we paid well for it) and are finding its services to come in an unreasonable timeframe. Many of us do suffer negatively healthwise and moneywise while the wait grows past what we were told to expect.

I for one just wish they would be up front about how long it takes. If I'm paying for this service, they should feel at least some pressure to keep their word. What kind of a business could be run this way and still have customers?

Very true and I knew what you meant. It has nothing to do them I'd just like to see the K1 get some attention and care... like you said we pay for it!
