Is there any example how the cover letter for the AOS should look like?

Walk with the angels

let them keep you safe

we'll join you one day

in that wonderful place

stand on the clouds and never forget

we're holding on to you

in our memories and thoughts

until one day we'll meet again

Look at the cover letter in the example forms under K-1 I-129F cover letter. Download it and use it as a template for your letter with I-485. Just change the wording as appropriate.

Assembling the I-485 Package: Checklist

Forms and Documents (follow these assembly instructions. All supporting documents must be in English or be translated as noted here.)

2. Cover Letter. Should include a description of what your are petitioning for (I-485), a table of contents (list everything in the packet). If you need additional room to explain your case, attach a separate sheet (list the attachment on the cover sheet). Make sure to sign and date the cover sheet.

thanks. i will just use the one for the I-129F.

Where are you quoting that from? USCIS don't require a cover letter for AOS. They do ask for one for I-129F.

EDIT: OK its from the Visajourney guide. Its still wrong.

However a cover letter is useful to keep track of things yourself. USCIS however don't use it.

GUIDES

Yeah, as I said, that guide is wrong. But don't let me stop you doing the cover letter, its a useful exercise in make sure that you have everything together. Just don't expect anyone else to read it, and therefore, don't waste too much effort on it!

dr_lha,

If cover pages were really a waste (like you imply), why would the "General Tips on Assembling Applications for Mailing" document on the USCIS website (please see http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD ) state that cover letters are something you should include in your application? Put yourself in the position of the person who has to verify that the application is complete with all the supporting evidence, wouldn't you like to have things organized and indexed for easy access? Or would you rather have a stack of forms and copies without any guidance of what's what?

The original poster states very clearly that those are guidelines and not "The LAW".

Instead of just making negative coments about other people's work, you should follow the old saying: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all or maybe just saying "Thanks for taking time to help others when you had no reason to do that"

I looked for your version of a guide but couldn't find it...I wonder why.

Even if not required, a cover letter to me was important 'cus I could sit down and make sure the cover letter was complete, then I when assembling the package I used the cover letter as a guide, that way I didn't forget anything. I'm pro cover letter. :P Keep things organized and serves as a guide to yourself.
