my wife from dominican republic has bad credit. we are married I married her there. we are doing the I-130 and we are now in the final phase with the NVC and have submitted the visa app. question is, will her bad credit stop her from coming here?

I dont see the US from stopping her but I can see her country stopping her from coming. she has debts however she is working and currently paying them even thought she went months without a job. she has been paying on her debts now a few months.

thanks. and sorry in advance if i have posted this in the wrong forum.

January 17th I-130 Documents arrived Chicago Lockbox

I have read of this before, for D.R. -

it's my understanding that if she is not in some repayment plan

then

her name is on a list

and the list is reviewed at the airport at customs control.

bad credit is one thing, that's ok.

not being in payment plan for debts is another thing, and that gets one on the list.

it doesn't affect the petition.

it affects ability to board the plane IN the D.R.

so your saying that she should be on a payment plan or she should not? my wife lives in DR with bad credit. I think what has happened is she was not able to pay bills because she didnt have a job for a while. Now she is paying them. but I am not aware she is on any payment plan. I think she just pays the bank for her car loan.

What can happen is if the debt collector has done an impendment de salida it shows up when the passport is swiped. It all depends who the debt is owed to and how much. There are those that have left owing banks and utility bills that have ha no problem. It can be checked to see if her name is listed although not sure were else besides the airport. My fiance has a friend that works in the airport tha use to check for people.

With you Darnell NEVER. I know what ever you post is with good intentions. But maybe I missed something? I know of an USC resident that was stopped for a debt owed to a hospital of about $100 and I know of a few locals that have had debts to banks, utility companies, phone companies etc of a few hundred dollars that have passed through customs here no problem.

To OP have your wife check into it to be safe. You don't want any issues when trying to leave.

no, I am speaking of a D.R. National Human,

getting through the airport,

to leave D.R.

The list is maintained there by Customs Control.

Ok maybe I am slow tonight because that is who I am speaking of as well, all I was adding to your comment was it depends on who the debt is owed to if "they" have you added to the list. And the person I was speaking of that could check I am assuming they work in customs because it is the passport # they need to check to see if there is an impendmente de salida. Sorry maybe I didn't state that correctly.

impedimente / tia de salida - that makes perfect sense.

So the big trick is to find out if one is on that list, prior to packing the luggage.

A little sharp response? I'm sure he has thought of that. Many people assume that because someone is from the US they will just have money sitting around to take care of any possible situation. However I would be concerned when the wife wants to return to the DR to visit family that debt won't go away and she might have trouble leaving again.
