You should tell that to the nutjobs at the NRA who believe they have nothing to do with guns on the streets, and advocate that is the police's job to ensure everyone is safe from the guns they tout.

I am asking you whose job is is as you raised that question in your earlier post?

Yes, we've discussed this just yesterday, I think. Gun homicides are down - same as all homicides are down. Still more than 2/3 of all homicides are perpetrated with guns. That hasn't changed.

In fact, I raised no questions at all. I simply pointed out the inconsistency with your argument vis-a-vis the position of the NRA before the issue.

so u suggest all sales go thru police dept, hence u are ok with police doing additional work but you are not ok with police patroling the school.

massive difference between cops running a simple name check to complete a private sale (necessary expense) and cops sitting in elementary schools ready to pop off (unneccesary expense..).

police officers = public safety

Sounds unnecessary. Why not take a different approach? When you commit a felony or are diagnosed with a mental illness that disqualifies you from purchasing a firearm, the DMV puts a decal or code on your drivers license. When someone wants to sell you a weapon, they ask to see your license first and make a copy of it. If they sell a weapon illegally, that's on them.

That way you exclude the vast majority of felons and mentally ill from legally buying a weapon without creating a registry of owners.

And it's cheaper.

no way. one of the first things you lose whilst catching a charge is your driver's license.

why not just have a basic five dollar fee, form, po po run the name check and give you the all clear or no go. the internet is magic.

So children are not part of public saftey?

So you think its justified to have a cop sitting all day to just type in one name and hit search?

That's more than they do now.
