Hello,

My fiance and I have decided on having a registered marriage. I looked online for the bexar county requirements it looks straightforward. The one where i have a question is, who do we contact in terms of officating the ceremony, and can we do it without her having SSN?? I would like her to get her SSN once with her married name.

Wedding ceremonies must be officiated by either a minister or a judge (with some exceptions). Inquire at the County Clerks Office about judges who perform marriage ceremonies. Most do them at specific hours or by appointment.

You can get a marriage license without a SSN, you usually have to prove that the individual is not a USC and therefore is not entitled to one.

Bharat,

In some SSA regions it can be problematic to get a SSN after marriage, especially if a name change is involved. When SSA checks the USCIS SAVE data base they will see the woman's maiden name.

'Safest' way to get a SS card without hassle is to apply before marriage in maiden name, then try to change the name after applying for adjustment.
