Hey there...this question is for anyone that can shed some light for me on this topic....I recently found out today that in order for me to petition my fiance that instead of doing a K1 fiance visa...which is what I originally going to do...I really need to do a CR-1 due to a immigration problem he had over 10 yrs ago which he will need a 601waiver...hence needing to be a married couple to be able to use this waiver....sooooo long story short...or maybe not....I am going to have to travel to Dominican Republic to get married over there....but I have been reading that the process can be a bit complicated because of all my paperwork that must be translated and because I was recently finalized my divorce to my previous husband. ..even though we had been seperated already for years....also does the documents that have to be presented in DR have to be notarized and legalized at a US Dominican consulate as well as the translations??? Help me please...Im so lost and confused. Now more than ever....Thanks ahead...

You have go get an apostille for your birth certificate and divorce decree. You can then get everything translate here in the DR will be cheaper. Check online for a sec of state in your area that does apostille it only cost a dollar were as embassy charge$50 or more. Not sure how strict they are with foreigners getting married as yes the law states you have to be divorced for 10 months before you can get married unless it is to the same person.

I just married my husband in December in the DR and we are now going through the I-130 process. It was quite a process to get all the documents prepared and translated and get the apostille seals. You do have to be divorced for 10 months before the DR will let you re-marry, unless, like stated above, you are marrying the same person you divorced.

Best of Luck to you! goofy.gif
