Hi Guys!

I have recently had my Visa interview which was successful. I am looking to the future and trying to understand about the Adjustment of Status. I have found the following link:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

From this, I am looked up g-1055. And I have noted the following...

I-765 Application for Employment Authorisation $380
I-131 Application for Travel $360
I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status $985 + $85 biometrics
No other document lists any fee. And the information in the link says that if I submit I-765 and I-131 at the same time, the charge for them is waived. So, can anyone confirm if I am correct in thinking the fee for AoS is $1,070?
Also, does anyone know about emergency permission to work? I read something about it early on in the process, but have found nothing since. And I would love the opportunity to support my partner.

Yes, total is $1,070 if you file AOS (I-485) + EAD (I-765) + AP (I-131) all together. EAD and AP fees are waived.

You will have to include all 3 applications in the same envelope, but you prepare them separately (meaning that sometimes, you will have to include 3 times the same document).

About the EAD, do you already have a job offer from a company?

You are allowed to work during your 90 days that your K-1 is valid (during which time you need to get married). After that, you cannot work until your EAD is approved.

Just a note (for anyone reading this): if you want to legally change your name on your SSN, you need to have at least 14 days left of validity on your K-1 visa or the computer won't let you do it (i found out the hard way when I went with 10 days left)

That's wrong. A K-1 cannot work just with a valid I-94. You can only work with an EAD or green card in hand.

good.gif Yes, so very wrong. A K-1 is not authorized to work without a valid EAD or the green card when their permanent residence is approved.

This is right. To add, they can apply for an EAD as a K-1, as category (a)(6).

They can apply for an EAD but it will cost them $380 and expire when their I-94 does, so it is a waste. The EAD with a pending I-485 will be valid for a year and the fee will be waived.
