No, they are pronounced differently. The length of the s is different, at least in California.

I think he meant the difference between axe and ask.

I'm from California, and this is blowing my mind. There has never, to me, been any difference between x and ks/cks, so I would very much like to confirm here... Do Tacks and Tax sound different to you too? Lacks and lax? Locks and lox?

Now I'm confused.

Are you saying that there is a different pronunciation between aks and axe? Note that the k is before the s here, because I'm going with the ebonics pronunciation.

If you are saying there is a difference between ask and axe, I get it, but...

If you are saying that ks and x are different, I don't get it at all. To me aks (short a, k-s consonant blend) sounds the same as axe (short a, k-s consonant blend).

Yes. The x is shorter than the cks.

You guys are killing me. I keep saying them over and over and I can't find a way to measure.

They sound the same to me in my accent. I feel like the X is shorter but it just depends on how you say it.
