When members of the student council at an Arizona high school organized a schoolwide "Redneck Day" and encouraged classmates to dress — and spoof — accordingly, they hoped to build school spirit leading up to prom week.

Instead, "Redneck Day" at Queen Creek High School has angered African-Americans and civil-rights leaders and touched off a debate about free speech, social stereotypes and good taste.

Tom Lindsey, superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District, said the only intent of Wednesday's event was to satirize the A&E reality TV show "Duck Dynasty," which follows a family of duck hunters and entrepreneurs from West Monroe, La.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Ok, I'l admit I've watch the show......quite a few times. The following its created is ridiculous. The show is painfully scripted and clearly pandering to a specific crowd. People are taking it way too far. How is a "redneck day" not racists towards white people? It seems like they would be the group directly made fun of.

To me it's more demeaning to white people than blacks. The term redneck has more negative connotations towards southern whites than it does anyone else.

The Rev. Oscar Tillman, president of the Maricopa County NAACP, who grew up in the 1940s in the South, said: "Our community knows what that flag represents. ... A school is supposed to be for education and showing people where we come from, our history, and to try not to go back to some things."

Reverand, how do you suggest we teach history without going back to some things? You want us to rewrite parts of history as if it never happened? Some people are ridculous.

In line with the theme, they should hold a Brewer & Arpaio look-alike contest...

I think the whole concept was more against them than us. The Conferderate flag is a souce of contention for us, but I know there is more to the flag than just racism.

Can't we just embrace the differences we all have?

There is a redneck culture, and it's super fun to imitate. Who hasn't put on a George Bush voice and said nuke-you-lar to make their friends laugh?

There is also an urban culture where people say "aks" instead of "ask" and have names like Shaniqua or Darnell. I can do quite a good impression of this as well, and it makes people laugh, including people in the group mentioned.

I imitate New Yorkers, those from Boston, Spanish-Speaking immigrants, and all other sorts of people who could be insulted... but my point is as follows:

We can't love each other until we let ourselves make fun of each other. Political correctness, I think, keeps people separated. I feel fine doing impressions of various minority groups just the same as a I feel fine doing impressions of my parents or siblings.

What would Xenu do?

"It depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

And ####### is the difference in how you say AXE vs AKS?

Old English āscian, ācsian to ask, seek, from Germanic *aiskōn from Proto-Indo-European *ais-sk, suffixed form of *ais- to wish, desire.

I guess maybe it's asc...!?
