  1. 1. In a Presidential election, would you vote for a guy who was born in Canada?

    • Sure. Canadians are cool. Besides, Canadians are more "American" than Hawaiians are.

    • Depends on which part of Canada. I'd never vote for someone born in Quebec but Albertans are cool. They're more "American" than Hawaiians are, that's fer damn sure!
    • Not a chance. Canada is overrun by Islamists and Communists so you never know. If you fish in bad water, you're likely to catch a mutant ninja turtle... or something.
    • I'm a no-borders kinda guy/gal so these national distinctions don't mean anything to me. I'm way better than the rest of you. Worship me, fools.

The world has changed a lot since the 18th century, but not enough to make the 2nd Amendment obsolete.

Obsolete, no. But in need of a serious overhaul, yes.

Btw, Gary hasn't been here in a while, so I figured I change the context of the thread over to guns instead of the original topic. Someone's gotta do it.jest.gif

That is debatable. The concept of 'arms' has changed drastically since the 18th century.

What is not debatable is that free states, even today, can have their security threatened. Humanity has not changed that much in 200 years.

Obsolete, no. But in need of a serious overhaul, yes.

Sure. It probably does need a good rewrite.

Alas it has too. The security threats we have faced in the last century are not the kind the arms outlined in the 2nd ammendment can fight or mitigate.

Yep. An armed insurgency is always a threat to a free society. I guess some folks would prefer the USA to be more like Kandahar.

It's a balancing act. On one hand, you can have a completely disarmed population, one subject to all forms of oppression by power-hungry politicians and bureaucrats and foreign powers. On the other hand, you can have a society where everyone is armed to the teeth and there is no regulation or system whatsoever - the wild west or contemporary Kandahar,

The middle ground is a well regulated militia, drawn from the population when necessary. Of course, that can't be done if the population is not armed.

Humanity has not changed that much in 200 years.

Agreed.

Weapons have changed dramatically though. Perhaps laws surrounding them might be able to change ever so slightly? Oh wait, I just fell down the slope. No change ever. The tiniest change in gun law immediately equals this:

Mr. Cruz was born in Canada to an American-born mother and Cuban-born father, and was a citizen from birth — but that Canadian factor puts him in the company of other past candidates who have had their eligibility questioned because of the Constitution’s requirement that a president be a “natural born citizen.”

Sorry, eligibility denied,

not 'eligibility questioned'.

He knew what's up, Mr. Cruz - he won't be complaining about it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
