  1. 1. In a Presidential election, would you vote for a guy who was born in Canada?

    • Sure. Canadians are cool. Besides, Canadians are more "American" than Hawaiians are.

    • Depends on which part of Canada. I'd never vote for someone born in Quebec but Albertans are cool. They're more "American" than Hawaiians are, that's fer damn sure!
    • Not a chance. Canada is overrun by Islamists and Communists so you never know. If you fish in bad water, you're likely to catch a mutant ninja turtle... or something.
    • I'm a no-borders kinda guy/gal so these national distinctions don't mean anything to me. I'm way better than the rest of you. Worship me, fools.

Don't hold your breath.

They must, lest they show their true colors!

After all the hoopla they created because Obama was born in Hawaii and only his mother was American, they can't let this slide by with a man whose last name is 'Cruz' and who was borh outside the US.

I am sure her guano crazy posse will be all over Ted...

A US base on Canada would be Canada.

Anywhere else in Canada is Canada Canada.

Oh, I see. His name, Ted Cruz, sounds more like a Mexican Canadian Canadian, and that changes everything. If he was brought to the US ilegally by his parents as a child, then he can be President, so long as he was smuggled in through Canada Canada.

Fairly good essay here on the subject from the Congressional Research Service, which basically says that if you haven't been naturalized, you are natural born. http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42097.pdf

You can be a US citizen w/o having been born in the US, without having been born to USC parents and without having been naturalized.

like it matters. you people elected a kenyan muslim twice.

Oh look, a birther!

I know I'm not in the majority with this opinion, but I have just never understood the whole "must be born in America to be really American" argument. Surely there are more important qualities to candidates to discredit them?

It only applies for presidential candidates. The USC states only an American-born can be president. It is not an indicment on naturalized citizens.

You're smarter than you look.

Someone who was born outside the US to two non-USC parents and never naturalized ... can be a USC? How? You've piqued my interest.

Not being natural born is a disqualifier, it does not discredit anyone. It's a qualification. Like when you go to Disney and you have to be 36 inches or taller to ride and you're just 33 inches tall. You're not discredited. Just disqualified.

Thank you, it hasn't been easy, being born a naturalized USC and all. I've had to work twice as hard as everyone else and never have I used the "N" word (Naturalized), it's demeaning to my people.

My hat goes off to you, you're pretty darn smart too.

Minors that are lawful permanent residents at the time one of their parents is naturalized, are automatically US citizens.

somebody had to represent real america

Looks as if "real America" couldn't muster a majority at the polls. Twice in a row.
