Hi anyone. Has anyone else filed in South Korea? I'm about to start the process by filing for my new hubby! I'm looking ahead and seeing the requirements for the medical exam.. is it all possible to get the exam in advance? We are already looking at having to miss a lot of work to go to Seoul for various parts of the process (we live almost 4 hours away by bus) and if we have to wait until we get packet 3, that probably means having to take yet another day off of work to trek to Seoul just to get the exam done. Thanks for the info :)

Met in Canada, both moved to South Korea to be teachers! ❤️

We were required to complete the medical exam after NVC sent packet to Seoul, but before interview. However, if I were in your shoes, I would simply call one of the medical facilities that conduct the exams and ask them directly. Keep in mind that the date of the exam could affect the expiration date of the visa (we did K-1 which expires 6 months after medical exam. I am not familiar with any of the others).

You can also try emailing the "embassy" (it's actually a call center/customer support service) at support-korea@ustraveldocs.com. We emailed them a few times and found their responses fast and accurate.

Thanks for the info... but I was under the impression that if we file with the consulate directly, it doesn't concern the NVC at all, yes?

Either way, I suppose giving them a call is probably the best route to take. Good info on the expiration date on the visa possibly being affected too.. thanks again.

My fiancee is an English teacher here in Korea. She's Korean - not a "native English teacher" as they say. We're doing the K1 because I don't reside in Korea anymore (even though I spend a good bit of time here). So, I'm really not familiar with the process you are taking, but I came across this material that you may find useful (especially the last two pages)...
