I need some advice. My husband and I haven't really "comingled" our finances. We have seperate bank accounts except for one, for no other reason then he had his accounts established and I am banking with another bank that lets me access my Candian banking easily. His name is on the mortgage because he already owned the house when we got married. We also don't have any joint credit cards. Am I totally screwed??? I have been happily living my married life, and unfortunately, never really thought about having to prove that it is real. I am supposed to submit my packet this Friday, and I guess it is my own fault for not being more prepared. Help!

Do you have any proof of living together? Bills with both names on it like a cellphone plan with your address?

Drivers license for each of you to the same address, car insurance with both names on it showing same address.

What kind of evidence have you been saving up for the last 2 years to submit already?

Thats some fairly good stuff already, Make sure to include statements from the 1 shared bank account. I would maybe see if a couple friends could do affidavits for you guys.

You don't have a shared credit card you said earlier but do you have any shared memberships? like costco / sams club, etc?

WIth the bank account, we really don't use it much, except for our tax refund. Unfortunately, we have no membership cards since it is just the two of us and never need to buy in bulk lol

Do you have joint medical insurances? We sent proof of premiums paid on our life and medical insurances. (Not every month, quarterly)

If you have travelled together can you get proof? We were able to download our trips from our points card for all the flights we have taken together. Christmas cards/letter sent and received with both names.

When we have travelled in the last two years we have always driven. I have some photos, and could print out hotel receipts. We each have our own insurance through our jobs, as it was too expensive to be on each others... Shouls I send teh actual cards, or copies of them?

Even if the account is only used for tax refunds its still maintained and used by you guys so still include that proof.

Do not send any originals make copys and send the copys. If you get an interview bring originals to the interview.

Humm... Are you able to access your transaction logs for your personal bank accounts? I can view my transaction logs on my ebanking portal going back to when I first opened the account in Feb last year.

If yes, you can print those out and maybe highlight the transactions that show movement of money between each other's accounts. We're planning to include ours as we didn't have a joint bank account until very recently.

I have money that is stuck in my RRSP's in Canada that I cannot touch until retirement age. I have my husband listed as the sole beneficiary for these. Should I send statements from these accounts as extra evidence? My only worry is that they are Canadian accounts, and have my parents CANADIAN mailing address listed on them. I don't know if this will hurt us or help us.

Don't see how that could be a problem. It may be an overseas account, but it's still your money and your husband is the beneficiary on it.

Share what you described as having -- joint tax paperwork, beneficiary info for life insurance, etc. Those are much bigger items than membership cards. Try not to worry :-)
