Based on people telling me that it is going to be difficult for me because im filing for a 2nd husband and age difference Ive decided to hire a lawyer. Does anyone know of a lawyer who is familiar with Nigerian consulate?

When you say 2nd husband do you mean this will be the 2nd immigrant you filed for?

What was the result of first husband? green card, citizenship

How long after he arrived did you divorce?

Age difference how great ( i assume you the woman are older)?

Make sure whoever you hire knows this word "Front-load" If they don't keep looking around.

Mosy I know who went through Lagos did it themselves. As long as you can prove you are in a Bonafide relationship it shouldnt be to hard.

And i know plenty women as much as 21 years difference and they were apropved fine without age being an issue or asked about.

But I can understand you seeking a lawyer. At least doing a consult. Good luck. (sorry I won;t be out of law school for 3 more years)

If you feel more comfortable with a lawyer by all means get one but you can also get a lot of info here from members who went through a similar situation

without a lawyer. In the end Lagos does not care if you have a lawyer or not and will base their decision on your submited evidence (you do the leg work gathering)and well prepared package and frequent visits etc.

The lawyer will only fill out the forms and clip your package together and send it.

If you get a lawyer you still have to run after him double checking what he does. I hand picked (incl. interviews) my attorney from a list of about 40, recommended from another well known self help immi site and ended up having to double and tripple check him and argue with him over some issues on how to proceed. Ended up firing his butt.

You can save about $1500 + and make an extra trip over to be with your man while asking for input here.

Many have age differences here and though not ideal, your 13 yrs is not that big of a deal.

You married in 2006 and divorced in 2010. If you can proof that he married you in good faith and the marriage just didn't work out for this or that reason

then you make it easier than if he had scammed you or if you had a very brief marriage and quick divorce and quick new filing which would be highly suspicious.

You can call many attorneys for a minmal fee for a phone consultation on how to present the previous failure of the marriage in your new petition.

I am not a fan of using lawyers but if you think you will benefit from using one it may be correct for you. Just keep in mind the lawyer is simply a filter for information provided by you. You will have to give them all the info required for them to fill in the forms for you which can slow the process down. They can provide you with advise but you can get that here on V J from experienced members for free. Here on V J you could ask the same exact questions you would of the lawyer and actually get an answer when you need it. Many lawyers will not respond as you may think.

Nigeria is one of the difficult embassies because of past history as we have seen here on V J. However I have seen a few members that have direct Nigerian experience that have been very helpful in answering questions.

Both lawyers are extremely excellent if your case would be returned to USCIS and you want to overcome a NOID/NOIR letter and fight for

reaffirmation.

thanks every one for your advice. another reason im hiring a lawyer is because I don't see any that have filed a 2nd time. and there are certain things I need to know specific to my situation.

I petitoned for my current fiance and the approved petition was returned. CSC does not reaffirm K1's and they let it expire after leaving it in storage for 6 months.

I didn't need a lawyer for my 2. filing but hired one anyway as I said and wished I hadn't because he didn't do a good job.

How can I prove what was on his mind? also he took all the paperwork wedding pics and marriage certificate when left. and he is the one the that filed for divorce. what would I need to submit to prove what his intentions were?

Yes Marc has experience with Nigiera. You will be juggling 3 time zones. Yours , Nigieria and Asia Filed a second time for what ? My ex was also an immigrant and I am significantly older. ( than both of them ) Cougar from the get go.

first petition for k3 Ghana. this one is cr1 Nigeria. I felt my first husband...did marry for love but when things got hard he changed. but i don't know what I could show what his intentions were from the beginning. I mean...he was approved...so i figure that was enough. what else can i do? getting a lil stressed about the whole thing.

The point is can you convince the consulate that you did not receive payment for bringing someone over for a sham marriage.

Convey that you and your ex both married for love and back it up with a few things. You don't go overboard on it but if it comes up you are ready.

When you file your petition you include a letter about why things didn't work out for you both (guidance of an attorney indicated here ) and that you both married for love initially and that he filed for divorce due to blah blah.....tell the truth from your heart without getting too emotional.

Tread lightly and don't overcompensate and present a matter of fact letter with a few paragraphs and include how you met your current man

and how much you feel you are a perfect match etc.etc.........

Yes, Marc has experience with Lagos though in your case it would not neccessarily matter as that is what he does best anywhere, his expertise in overcoming assumptions and lots of technicalities is great and he is good with NOID/NOIR letters should it come down to that if the case gets returned.

Don't stress just be over prepared, then less complication would be a pleasant surprise versus thinking it will be a piece of cake.
