So, My fiancee wants to get married in her country the next day after we get approved for our K-1.

She just wants to leave her country and family as a married woman. All she cares about is getting married through church, she said the civil one can be done in America.

By as getting married by church after the approval, will that mess our process in any way? I mean, church all they give is a certificate of marriage and that is it, nothing is documented, I think lol.

So what do u guys think, is this a good move relating our K-1 process?

Church marriage is not a legal marriage, make sure you do not sign anything though.....

Are you sure your church will marry you if you are not legally married first?

As long as church marriage is a " blessing " you are more than fine, but if they have you both sign documents in front of witnesses, your church might have the power to legally marry you so check first. But as a general rule in the eyes of USCIS no signed documents= no marriage

I wouldn't risk it.

Firstly, in many countries, a church marriage IS legal.

Secondly, even if yours is not, the embassy/ immigration at the airport/ USCIS later when you try to adjust status may THINK you got legally married (by talking to friends and family in the area, seeing your Facebook status, or photos or the way you refer to eachother as husband and wife etc) and deny you, because you must be unmarried to use the K1.

I see two save options:

- Have a "going away party", maybe even with a small blessing by the priest at the restaurant/ home you have it- no mention of wedding, no wedding dress, no weddingy invitations etc.

- Use the K1, get legally married in the USA, then AFTER that, as soon as she has AP, return for a visit to her home town and have the big wedding blessing and reception.

You two should not get married before she enters the US; otherwise, you'd both be screwed. K-1 visas are issued to fiances/fiancees. Just encourage her to organize a despedida de soltera or any other party with her family and friends. If she wants to have a wedding in her country asap, do cancel the I-129F, get married, and start all over again with a spousal visa.

First and foremost, is this a Catholic Church wedding? If it is, understand that they will not grant you the right to just marry. You need to meet with the priest and you will have to attend pre Cana courses. It's a class you take with a couple who are pillars in the church to asses whether you are ready for marriage or not. It takes time, maybe two months on average. There was no way I could stay in Ecuador for two months, so that option was out. We are planning a church wedding in October 2014.

If this is some other denomination, I don't know if they have rules such as the ones I mentioned.

In any case, it's better she comes to states, get married in court here, apply for AOS, wait for AP, then fly back and have your church wedding.

If the family doesn't want to hear it, then explain it to her, and have her explain it to them. If they're still not having it, then you have some tough conversations ahead my friend. Immigration is involved in your relationship now, the romance is out. Sorry.

Any kind of ceremony outside of the US, is considered marriage. If she tries to enter under K-1, it is fraud.

You can have a ceremony but nothing official, just for the family. My friend got her K1 visa last week and they had a small ceremony for the family and close friends and she just entered te US today with no poblem, so as long as it's not an official wedding just, like she called it, a "pretend wedding", something for her family (her mother specially) you guys should be good. best of luck!

i can understand your fiance wanting her family involved in her wedding, but seriously this process is so long and exhausting, you're at the very end of it why would you do ANYTHING that might jeopadise it
