Leaving the country AFTER AP approval but BEFORE AP arrival

AM, the problem that I see is that you dont have anything with the gov't offical stamp/logo that says you were approved. An email is not going to cut it. But like others said "do you want to take the risk". As we all know strange things have happened and will continue to happen. I think people have given you their thought but you are not accepting of them which is your choice. I don't think anyone is going to tell you what you want to hear.
Frndly1, respectfully, we do not intend to rely on the email to reenter the country. If you are so inclined, please re-read the discussion above to find that we are asking for people's thoughts/comments on going through the embassy to obtain a replacement for a lost/misdelivered AP document. Judging by Zyggy's post, it sounds like it is a viable option.

Further, would you mind explaining what "risks" you are talking about. Again, judging by Zyggy's comment above, the greatest risk that we would face with this approach is a delay in obtaining a replacement AP document through the embassy. Since the AP has already been approved, my wife's departure would NOT be deemed an abandonment of her AOS.

You might find the Embassy are not so keen to replace a document that you have not actually recieved yet.... surely if you need the AP to re-enter the country you should just not be going if you dont have it.... that makes much more sence to me.... but as demonstrated in your other posts you are not the sort of person who will just wait to get what is required you will do what you want to and aruge the point to get what you want with whatever department you need to.... fine if it works for you... in my opinion there are way too many things that are out of my control to take chances.... if it was for an emergancy then that is one thing if its to go visit relitives for thanksgiving then no-way....

hope it works out for you...

How is this different if one loses the documents for any other benefit...

What would happen if you lost your GC when overseas... There are procedures in place for the Embassy to issue temporary documentation to individuals who have lost their documentation to be able to enter the US. How is it different for someone who has been issued AP..

am applied for AP and has been approved for it. If one would happen to lose the I-512 AP document while overseas.. are you saying that it's too bad, you have to start over again...

Hardly, one is able to go to the embassy and request a replacement, or a document that will allow you to enter the US so that you can get a replacement from the USCIS...

My wife just called to say that the AP was in today's mail. Thankfully, no change in travel plans is required. Thank you all very much for all your wonderful thoughts and comments!

Niagaenola/Kezzie -- yes, we are the type of people to thoroughly investigate, understand and assess the risks that we are facing before we make an important decision. As such, we always prepare for as many possible contingencies as we can, which has so far allowed us to avoid most complications. As such, hearing that certain things are not meant to be done a certain way does not ever end our queries -- the logical question is what happens if things are done that way. You'd be surprised by how often the answer to that question is not nearly as bad as you think.

Yes he has been approved for it as by email but has not actually got it and plans to leave the country knowing he has not got it and then go to the embassy and ask to have it replaced..... to me it would make more sence to get it sorted out here and actualy have the AP before you leave the country.... to knowingly leave without it and then expect to get it replaced is not right.... if he lost it while in Canada that is one thing to leave the US when he has never actually recieved it does not make sense...

am...

Glad to hear of your getting your I-512... best of luck in your travels...

P.S. Don't forget to gently remind the CBP to issue you an I-94 when they validate the I-512 at the POE when you return. The new guys forget that sometimes...

So would you encourage someone to do the same with their greencard.... they get an e-mail saying they have been approved without interview and they flight to wherever the next day and you are saying all they have to do is go to the local US embassy and ask for a new one because the other one never arrived.....

Sounds like a good plan to me...... not
