baklava is too sweet for me, it makes me sick. But then again so does ice cream. :(

Ice Cream makes me sick because of the milk, but I think if you try arabic baklava it won't be as sweet. I have had some that just make my teeth hurt.

Then I guess you wouldn't like the baklava Sundae that they serve at the Greek Food Festival here in Dallas . . . vanilla ice cream with baklava crumbled up on top (sometimes they just do the filling without the pastry part). I actually think the ice cream cuts the sweetness of the honey :lol::lol:

cool. more for me then! *eats jp's share of the ice cream* :D

 You know people think I'm weird because I never liked ice cream. I don't like anything I can't chew. I don't like milkshakes either. I prefer cookies so hand em over.

Oh man thats making me teeth hurt just thinking about it. I can see how it would be a good combo too, especially it the baklava was hot. I would just heat up some baklava, and put the ice cream on top. That would be sinful :P:star:

So Charles, are you having a traditional US Thanksgiving, or will Nessa introduce you to food from her country? How different is what you have where you're at from what she is used to? I guess they don't celebrate Thanksgiving there like us, but I don't know, am I totally off base?

I love Couscous, but I hate baklava. I can barely stand honey anymore. When I was in middle school I had such bad allergies to pollen that the doctor suggested that I take a tablespoon of pure local honey everyday and it will help with my allergies. Well after about a week, I couldn't handle it anymore. Now the only time I really eat it is if I accidently get some on my fingers when putting some in Adil's tea. He loves honey BTW! We have this huge jar of pure honey with the comb still in it. that's the only way he will it the honey, it has to have the comb.

It doesn't matter what kind of baklava actually. I've had the arabic kind and didn't like that either.

I guess I'm not a fan of puff pastry, either, or any pastry. I like good ol' cupcakes. But I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I prefer salt & oil! :D

I can't eat ice cream, either, JP, no dairy as a matter of fact.

JP, my mom always makes the best stuffing ever! I'll get the recipe from her and post it for you. It does have sausage (pork) so not something I can have anymore, but it is sooo scrumdidliumptious!

:)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

Does anyone have a good knock your socks off recipe?

I do, but its one of those handed down family recipes that are not written down, so its a little of this and pinch of that and just enough of the other thing until its just right. If i tried to write it down and you followed the instructions it might not be as good and you would call me a liar and not let me have any cookies.

sorry

seriously doesn;t anyone else cook these types of foods for thanksgiving? things you learned to cook by watching your mom or grandmother?
