Am I the only one that doesn't like couscous and baklava???

I work only 3 days this week, so I am a happy girl. Of course, as usual, the Thanksgiving feast is at my house, with me doing the majority of the work. It really sucks to be the responsible one!

Nope, I hate couscous & anything soaked in honey is untouchable to me.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

I'm not crazy about couscous and neither is Abdel thank goodness. I love Baklava, and make the kind that is soaked in honey. I need to find the recipe because Abdel loves it too. He loves honey so much he even brought a small bottle of it with him from Morocco because he didn't know if he would be able to get it here.

Of course lately we're also sick of rice from all the Japanese takeout we've been eating.

Today I am fighting a horrible sinus headache. There aren't too many people here so I was hoping to get a lot of work done - so much for that!

Oh! we had the funniest experience this weekend. Our favorite place to eat out is a little Mexican restaurant not far from where we live that serves pretty authentic Mexican food. They have an awesome chicken dish with a super hot chipolte sauce that we both love. Only one problem - they won't serve it to me with the sauce. If Abdel orders it, he gets tons of wonderful hot sauce, but if I order it, it's a different story. The first time I ordered it the waitress informed me that it was very hot, was I sure I wanted it? I guess she had forgotten that Abdel had just ordered it the week before. I said yes, but she still brought me a version with not much sauce. Next time Abdel ordered it, he got the sauce. This weekend I ordered it again and while she didn't warn me it was hot, there was almost no sauce on it. I told Abdel I feel discriminated against - they think I can't handle hot food. He laughed, called me "la gringa" and said that she probably thinks he's Mexican and just getting me to order that to torture me. I guess from now on I just have Abdel order for me and I'll order for him so I can get the freaking chipolte sauce!

I was just gonna suggest that one! I rented it yesterday but haven't watched it yet. One of my gfs suggested it to me.

Does "Bride and predjudice" count? It's really good and cute. It kinda goes along the lines of what you are talking about.

oooh bride & predjudice was adorable!

I can totally relate to this! I think some people see fair skin and immdeiately assume - you can't handle the hot stuff! When I go out to eat with my mom (fair and blonde) and we order extra spicy, they usually confirm three times that it is very hot, and then it usually isn't even all that hot. If I'm by myself or with "non-fair skinned" friends or relatives, they take us at our word and it actually is spicy. Go figure!

As I understand it there are a couple of different way to make baklava but I could be wrong. The kind that I've had, which I can't stand, is drenched with honey. Blech!! :P

The greek kind is the one drenched in honey, I dont care for that one either. The arabic kind is not as sweet.

Once I went to a mexican restaurant with my ex bf. He is Iraqi. They guy started talking to him in Spanish and he had no idea how to respond...lol...it was quite funny!

Okay, so try ordering the sauce on the side and see what they do.

Good Idea, I'll have to try that.

Doodle, I asked around today about the Oyster dressing/stuffing and apparently it is a Southern thing. I can't believe nobody in my family has made it in the 16 years I've been down here. All I can say is I guess they don't like it. Those I talked to here at work today said it definitely is an acquired tasted and that most families make two pans - one with oysters, one without.

I looked up Paula Dean on the net and realized that she owns a restaurant called "The Lady & Sons". I've eaten there once, but didn't really like it. Too greasy and fatty for me. Our secretary said she loves it though and she's born and bred Southern, so I guess if you love Southern food, you'd love her cooking.

Ice Cream makes me sick because of the milk, but I think if you try arabic baklava it won't be as sweet. I have had some that just make my teeth hurt.

I guess it's kind of like chestnut stuffing here. I can't stand that stuff!!! We usually have one dish of plain peppridge farm stuffing and one dish of sausage stuffing. I used to prefer the sausage stuffing but I guess those days are gone since I no longer eat pork.

Isn't it pretty hard to mess up stuffing? In the past I just used whatever we had around, apples, raisens, celery, onion, etc. Actually I have never really had a stuffing that I cared for nor have I understood the love of stuffing. Does anyone have a good knock your socks off recipe?
