Have you considered getting your loved one an ipad and then getting Wifi in the house. I got my hubby an ipad and I use my iPhone for FaceTime when I have wifi and Skype when I am on the road. We pay 40 bucks for Internet, 150 for initial connection and we video chat daily. Free, well only 40 monthly for unlimited chatting. Just though i would share.

I have recharged husbands phone twice since then and no problems. The first time time he thought it was an MTN bonanza! LOL.

I also bought their 1000 minutes($39.99) just yesterday cos it was more economical for me now considering it is only abt 4 cents per minutes as opposed to rebtels' which is 5.6cents per minute. Within a day, I am down to 700minutes balance .

I have comparisons to make though:

PROS:

* again the Nigeria 1000 bucket deal is cheaper than rebtel. more minutes is always good. Without this deal, their PAY AS YOU GO rate is at par with rebtel's.

* They inform you of your account balance every time you attempt to make a call even if you are redialing after a lost connection. This helps keep me on track as we can get carried away on the phone.

* Location is in the U.S so dealing with customer service is not a major concern as they have an 866 #.I deal with rebtel's via email which could mean hours of delay before a response( then again in my years with Rebtel, I have had only one major issue just last week).

CONS:

* They have a local access number you must dial from your phone before you dial the receipient's number in international format. I kinda prefer rebetel's method of assigning me a permanent local number for each recipient which I just enter( process is shorter). This is why I dont like calling cards.

* I had to make multiple attempts at dialing before I could connect. It kept saying "the MTN # you are trying to call is not...." LOL.

*once or twice during the call, hubby kept saying to speak up or adjust my phone to my mouth, which rarely happens with rebtel.

In view of the above, I prefer my Rebtel service. Hubby will be here shortly so will not need to make loooooooooooooong calls anymore. Telephone Nigeria shall definitely be there for back up like Gowon said and also now I have a way of sending recharge credits to people as some sort of gift. LOL.

Also telephone Nigeria has web call and this method provides an opportunity to assign specific people to speed dial, that way you can avoid the local access number issue. I havent tried it though; prefer to call frm my phone instead of computer.

I'm so looking forward to having my Wife here too as I spend an obscene amount of money with RebTel on a monthly basis.

The other thing is for those that need to use phone record as evidence I don't think Tel9ja offers that.

Oh wow! That sucks for users if one cannot get call records. I can relate on the money aspect. Last month alone i spent close to $250 on rebtel alone. This is apart from my regular verizon cell phone bill !!!
