Paying Visa Fee at Consulate

Hi All,

My husband had his CR-1 interview in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and was approved. He received his passport with the visa along with the packet just a couple days later. We have one concern though. We understood that he was supposed to pay his visa fee at the Consulate before they issued the visa. But, no one ever mentioned or asked him to make a payment when he was there. I called the visa information center here in Mexico to see if he owed anything. They said that they would've asked him for the payment at the Consulate and that they wouldn't have issued the visa if he owed anything. Did they make a mistake? Or has the application fee been replaced by the $165 immigrant fee that we need to pay after receiving the visa? Thanks!

My husband paid his fee on line. After his interview they gave him a paper with the instructions on how to do that. So i dont think you pay that fee at the cosulate.

Thanks for your response, Chabela! Did you guys file DCF? I'm guessing that the fee your husband paid after the interview was the new immigrant fee of $165. We got instructions for that too. But, there's normally a fee of $230 dollars for the visa application processing fee and that is paid before the visa is issued. That's what I'm wondering about.

Oh yes the $230 we paid before, we did a money order and mailed it in. And the $165 wich like you say is the new immigrant visa fee we paid after he got his visa.
