So I came on a K1 visa and got married 3 weeks ago and now waiting for our marriage certificate to apply for adjustment of status. I'm wondering if I should apply for employment adjustment to start working meanwhile while I wait? How long does it take for AoS to get approved? Any advice, directions, suggestions, instructions, comments etc?

Thanks.

The green card can take up to a year, so yes you should definitely apply for the EAD (and AP) when you apply for AOS so you can work (and travel) in the meantime. The EAD/AP takes about 60-90 days. But you still need to wait for your marriage certificate, and apply for all three at the same time.

If you apply for an EAD (employment authorization) prior to filing AOS it costs around $360 and is only good until your I-94 expires. So about the time you receive it, it is expired.

You can file for an EAD along with the AOS at no additional charge and it takes about 3 months to obtain. With the EAD and a social security card you are good to work while you wait for your green card. Also might as well apply for Advance Parole (AP) with AOS as it is at no additional charge and you never know if you might need it.

Apply for EAD and AP for sure. Like the previous replies stated - there is no extra charge and if your petition ends of staying at NBC for processing without an interview you could be in for a very long wait. 8-10 months is what it is currently taking.
