if you need some immunizations get them done before the medical as they will cost a lot to get them done at the medical...

these are the ones you need if you are between the ages of 18 to 64..

if you are not sure what you have or not get our doctor to get the blood titre test done for you..

Uh oh. I'm pretty sure that I did not have the complete tetanus/diphtheria one because I was allergic to it. The doctor tried it twice and my reaction was more severe each time, so he decided not to give me the full dose. :\ I don't have any kind of record of this, though. Not sure how to handle that if they require it...

If you are allergic your doctor would have made a note join your file. You need a written letter from your doctor stating you are allergic to the vaccine.

Just chiming in to encourage you - I was unable to get any live vaccinations (MMR/Varicella) - although I didn't need Varicella and just 1 booster of MMR. My titers showed I had received the MMR as a kid but was not immune to measles and needed a booster. Unfortunately due to the medication I am on (immune reducing) I was not allowed to receive any live vaccines. My doctor wrote me a note and I brought it to my medical and the doctor checked off that I was eligible for a waiver on that shot and everything went fine. I still haven't gotten it and won't be able to unless I get off this medication (unlikely). Another situation is being pregnant means you can't have live vaccines if I recall. The main point is, there are reasons not get shots, the doctors are aware and with a simple doctor's note you will be fine :)

Thanks guys! That does make me feel a bit better. I'll have to speak to my doctor about it and see if he is willing to write me a note or something. The records from the previous doctor that would have mentioned the allergy are not accessible anymore (long story), so I'm hoping there'll be a way to get around it. :)

BTW your current doctor can request the information with your consent from the previous doctor. I had my doctor do that when I changed drs about 4 months into pregnancy. Unless the files are destroyed etc...

I don't think anyone likes needles! The blood test is a lot easier, in my opinion, than getting vaccinations. Deep breaths, look away, and remember it's bringing you thismuch closer to being with your fiance!

Sadly, can't do that for me. :\ Previous doctor didn't keep old records and was found to be falsifying a lot. I guess I should be happy that at least the blood test is an option to prove immunities, anyway.

Thanks for the advice and such.

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't have any of my vaccine records, so I'm going to have to get the blood test done.

Quick Q though, I rarely visit doctors or hospitals and we don't have a family doctor (moved around a lot). Do I just go to a walk-in clinic and ask for a blood test or should I call the local hospital?
