I flew to the Philippines in March from Seattle for $890...now I can't find anything this summer under $1500 sad.png

Does anyone have any tips for flying to Cebu or Manila from the west coast? I'm in Seattle so I flew Korean air the last time.

I heard that the Philippines had their FAA rating increased and that will allow for direct flights from US carriers...but I'm not sure when that will take effect.

I'd like to fly back this summer, but if I can save a few dollars then that's even better. smile.png

I'd rather fly into Cebu, but I'll fly into Manila if the price is right.

Any tips you might have would be great.

If you think you will be flying to the Philippines more in the future, I suggest you apply for a membership in any of the airlines like Delta. You can start earning miles. USA to Philippines is already 8,000+ miles one way. You can get free upgrades and you can use the accumulated miles to travel domestically here in US.

I always search different times of the day, different days of the week and seems to work for me. Using that system I'm getting 1200+ for flights out of ATL. to MNL. Korean Air uses several different booking agents ie. FareCompare is the last one I used.

The airlines use a complex matrix for fares that can change hourly/daily. What I usually do is find an average price, say $1,200.00 and then keep at it for weeks until I get a cheaper fare. It will drop sometimes by several hundred dollars, but you have to be diligent to get the bargin.

The last trip I took I found the best fare at 07:00, and it was only up for about two hours, then the fares went back up. My buddy looked at 02:00 when he came home from work and found the same price as me.

Best time to buy: Tuesdays at 3 p.m. Eastern. If you don't find the discounts you're looking for in the early morning, a study by Farecompare.com says the best time to buy airline tickets and shop for travel (domestically) is on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Eastern. However, George Hobia, founder of AirfareWatchdog.com, argues that the best deals vary frequently, so there's not one specific day or time of the week to buy.

Cheapest day to fly: Wednesday. According to a recent Farecompare.com study, the cheapest day to fly is Wednesday for domestic travel. "The day with the most seats is likely to have better supply, and thus ... more empty seats that require discounting to fill the plane—meaning they have to release more seats at their cheapest price point," according to the website. Other low-cost days to fly are Tuesday and Saturday, says Farecompare (Friday and Sunday are the most expensive days to travel).

Fly out early. The cheapest flight is typically the first flight of the morning. "Yes, that means you have to get up at 4 a.m.," says Rick Seaney, chief executive of Farecompare.com. The next-cheapest flight times are during or after lunch or at the dinner hour. "Of course, the absolute cheapest time to fly is on those limited routes with red-eyes," he says.

Check low-cost airlines individually. Comparison sites like kayak.com don't necessarily do all the work for you. Some low-cost airlines, like Southwest in the United States and Ryanair in Europe, don't allow their tickets to be quoted on popular comparison websites, says Seaney. So be sure to check them separately. And do your homework to make sure the so-called "low cost" airline doesn't tack on extra fees that drive up the cost, like a bloated baggage-check charge, which Seaney says is a tactic employed by some of the budget airlines.

Sign up for free alerts on AirfareWatchdog.com. Almost every major online booking site offers airfare alerts that ping you when fare prices fall. AirfareWatchdog.com stands out from the pack by using people to vet deals rather than computer systems. "We only send updates when we think we've found a good deal, whereas other sites might update you when a flight drops $2," says founder George Hobia.

Build a relationship. "The question isn't how much is it to fly from here to there, the question is, 'Who's asking?'" Brancatelli says. If you're an elite member of the airline's frequent-flyer program or if you have a credit card that's tied to the airline, you automatically have a leg-up on other travelers. "The more the airline knows you, the more it tailors its pricing to you," Brancatelli explains. Credit cards tied to the airlines now offer perks that were once standard, such as free checked bags, priority boarding, and seat selection, so they may be worth signing up for if you fly frequently on one airline.

I think from may to 2nd week of August, tickets are sooooo expensive. My fiancé have to pay 1,400 this may compared to 900+ last January 24.

I hope it's gonna be the last time he have to spend too much for plane tickets, he's not saving so much for going here every 4 months.

Buy in advance and use a travel search engine. My favorite is tripadvisor.com. It gives you all inclusive prices , not just cheap fares to get your attention. Best of luck.

It's expensive to go to the Philippines during the summer here in the US but you can try Eva Air. If you fly often sign up for their frequent flier which they have really good deals. I went to the Philippines in Oct 2011 & 2012 and booked my flight around May and was able to get the ticket for $1020 for an Elite seating.

Rates will not start easing until Sept usually.. People travel when school is out. They will go back up around Christmas.

I love Korean Air. Only Air Line I will fly.(to the Philippines) Sometimes if you are willing to travel on a few days notice the rates in the summer will drop a few days out on a particular flight if it's not booked 100%

As another poster said. I am a KAL F flyer member. (SKYPASS) . I also got a KAL credit card. I pay all my bills with it. In less than two years and with two round trips to Cebu , I have enough points for a free ticket and got upgraded to the Morning Calm Club. You get two free lounge tickets every year. 15K miles for signing up and double points for buying your KAL tickets with it.

Almost every monthly expense you have can be paid by CC- Electricity, Cable, Water. Use it every time you eat out or purchase something. Jut be disciplined and pay it off every month. You would be shocked how quick the point add up.

Also if you are going to fly KAL. You can book straight from the KAL website. None of the other sites will ever be cheaper.

I flew Asiana Airlines in Feb and March of this year for the first time and I liked it. Stop in Incheon and then direct to Cebu. Even if it's a little more it saves you the cost of going through Manila, the flight and terminal fees and taxis add up.

I went out of Chicago.

Gonna try again.
