True, hip hop has transcended many races. When I was stationed in Germany from 1997-1999, Hip hop and rap had taken over the country. Almost every German woman we met read Word Up magazine, had Biggie or Tupac, or both tattooed on them, spoke slang, and dressed like a round the way girl. One girl offened me because she said her dream was to grow up in the ghetto, she really thought those videos was an accurate portrayal of what it was like.

this is true, but the opposite has also happened, using odd future as an example...this notion that all black people live in ghettos is tiresome. lots of black kids live in suburbs and small towns. kids in suburbs all hang out, skateboarding and pissing off old people, together..

there's been a shift in hip hop culture, it isn't at all 'underground' anymore. biggie and tupac are beyond madonna status..hip hop culture is basically pop culture..very mainstream.

i liked hip hop better when it was raw and honest. now it's corporate and all about materialism. i heard something on NPR the other day about the kids in brazil and how they're completely criminal minded because they're left to fend for themselves in a world that demands consumerism yet they have no means to consume. so they take what they want however possible..i think we're seeing that same sort of mentality nourished in corporate rap and played out in ghettos in the u.s. i expect it will get worse..
