I was just reading the Rio "Embassy Info" page and the guy who wrote it said he was allowed in the interview with his fiancée, but that other USCs had not been allowed in and had been told to wait outside. Apparently there had also been some denials?? (I wonder if they hadn't been genuine relationships and the conof had realized that before the interview?)

I will have to kind of rearrange my life to attend Rey's interview, and I'm willing to do it if you guys think it would cinch the deal, but if it's not going to help or they're just going to keep me out of the interview, then at best I could only offer him moral support, and he is a big boy. :)

Sooooo what were your experiences? What do you think?

Thanks!

I know nothing about Rio. But I om of the opinion that it is better to go as a couple. In my mind it just plain looks better. Never mind the help your SO (USC or not) will get from just being there supporting you. I would imagine that is SUCKS to go in there alone without your SO. What does everyone else think?

Hi Alex,

It's really hard to say if it's better or not. I guess each person has a different experience.

My husband paid an hour consultation with an immigration lawyer in the US and she told him that he should attend the interview because it shows that he took the time and effort to be there with me, which would also show that the relationship is genuine. We talked a lot about it and decided that he will come, even though we really don't think it will make that big of a difference. We just rather be safe if it does! Fortunately he can take the few days (he's only staying 5 days!) off from work and we managed to get flights with miles and hotels with points, so we won't be spending too much money.

I guess you just have to put it all in perspective and see your possibilities. I hope other brazilian K1s can help you out!!

On the day we went (Mew, myself and Jana) there were around 15 of us and only Jana had the USC. It didn't affect any of us, we all got approved. I'd say unless your case is complicated or lacks proof there's no need to be there. If you want to be there then it's fine too, I've never heard of them not allowing the USC in.

Alex,

I did some searches some time ago and read a few cases where the petitioner had to wait outside. I think it depends on the CO...

As for denials, I only read of a couple (they were mentioned in a forum, but I couldn't find the original thread), but since they were mentioned in a very fishy website, I wasn't very worried.

I really think you being there will have no difference on the outcome of the interview.

If you need any more info, feel free to pm me.

I attended with my fiance at Rio. There was no problem with my joining her in the interview. From the way the CO responded to us, I definitely got the idea that it was a positive thing that I was there.

I think it depends on each couples ability to show prove of having met and in an ongoing relationship. Attending with her makes a pretty strong case, if you don't have that much proof.

Hmmm well, I really want to go (and I also want the trip to Brazil!) but I'm having trouble finding a temporary job here in Minnesota, so it might just be time to make the move to New York right after the new year (which I planned to do in March/April). If I did that, then I don't think I could afford the trip. :(

So it would mean staying in Minnesota a few extra months, not sure if I can find a job here...

We have proof of relationship (lots of proof of our trip to Argentina including photos and matching ticket stubs to lots of stuff), our Vonage logs, and he has letters/packages I've sent... a receipt for a plane ticket he got me a few months ago with his work account, about 100 emails every day... will that be enough proof of ongoing relationship?

You don't have to be there for the interview -- I don't think it makes any difference.

If the consular officer asks him why you're not there, Rey could just tell him the truth --

that you already visited a couple of months ago and you're not made of money.

Alex, I agree with Laura and Liszy. If there aren't any special circumstances about your relationship with Rey, your not being there shouldn't be a problem at all. I have seen Yodrak say many times that he believes the best piece f evidence one shows the CO is how they present themselves and how they behave and answer the questions asked.

In my opinion, you have more than enough evidence. Be sure to include pictures of you guys together, that's all the CO asked for as far as evidence of relationship goes. Also, pick a few e-mails with great content that would help you show that you are in a legit relationship - there's really no need to bring 100 e-mails.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

A week ago at my fiances interview, they only looked at a few pictures of us together, scanned over a couple hand written letters and that was it.

I really wanted to go to the interview as well, however after seeing how easy it was for her, they money saved can be used much better here now that she has arrived.

If your case is straight forward, and your documents are all correct, there shouldn't be any problems. My fiance said it was an extremely easy experience (of course, my #######-ness about paperwork being done properly probably helped a little  )
