I don't think they would even need to go that far. Simply educating young people about sex and contraception would be the way to go.

Unfortunately, the religious nuts that have taken over the Republican party will have none of that.

Is Thailand in a similar situation?

I'm skeptical when it comes to thinking teenagers will be responsible sexually even if educated. Parents here for sure will have a hard time accepting the idea of their 15 year old becoming sexually active and supporting them doing it. I don't consider this aspect of it to be a political issue.

Or if you have to buy it in large quantities like I do to make meth.

Funny story, I worked in a grocery store when I was young. Some guy rolls in and picks up like 10 bottles of liquid fire (solution for unclogging drains and ingredient for making meth). Had all the tell tell jitters and what have you. Anyway, so he sits all this down and I give him an odd look. He looks at me and smiles and says, "Man if this don't get that clog out, nothing will!"

So i rang him up, wrote down his drivers license and turned it over to the cops.

Man that drives me crazy when they give me the 5th degree for trying to buy anything with ephedrine. I buy like on box of 12 pills like once a year and each time I have a different experience. Walmart will have the little cards out on the shelf but won't sell it without a prescription unless you ask a different attendant or go to another location. I mean I understand why they do it and support it. I just wish it would be a little more standardized and they didn't have to make me feel like a criminal. I can't imagine how much it must suck if you have allergies constantly.

i take claritin d pretty much everyday. all year. i take breaks periodically so they don't lose their effectiveness.

you don't need a prescription in most states, you just have to buy it from behind the counter. i've been turned away before for buying too much, which is hilarious, considering i only take one a day. what if i needed to buy some for my son? the pharmacists suggested bringing in another family member to buy it for me..isn't that the sort of thing they're supposed to be avoiding in the first place? so silly.

Thailand has made huge strides in preventing HIV via the use of condoms. There's actually a couple restaurants in Bangkok called "Cabbages and Comdoms" started by some guy that went on a safe sex campaign.

If you look at the teen pregnancy rates in western Europe, or even Canada for that matter, they are much less than the U.S.

I tried to look that up relative to sex education, but for some reason "sex education" is a forbidden phrase here at work. Our firewall blocks access to those sites for some reason. I'm 44 years old and they don't want me learning about it. I work for a telecom company. I guess sex education might cut into future potential mobile phone subscribers.

if there is a problem with young girls abusing the pills in the u.s. they should do some sort of registry like they do with pseudoephed, to make sure there is some consultation required.

Never met a liberal who did not think a little more Govt bureaucracy could fix anything... Nice real nice

Considering the number of abortions and unwanted babies here in the US, birth control seems to have been thrown out the window. Check out the numerous pro athletes with children with multiple partners. Or the women with 8 kids from 6 different men.

I think stopping the birth of unwanted children would go a long way to fixing some of our problems. Our war on poverty had destroyed the family propagated an 80% illegitimacy rate among some minorities in this country. . Way to many people having kids in high school as a status symbol and means of a check.

That having been said, my libertarian roots applaud this, but I hate to see lack of parental consent striped away. A 15year old is not an adult.I guess I reluctantly ok with it.

It does seem kind of odd a 15 year old can't bring an aspirin to school but can by a morning after pill.

if there's a problem, fix it. especially if it's an easy fix like, access to information.

we don't even know that abuse will be a problem yet.

Right, but the "fix it" part does not always require Big Daddy Govco. Sex ed and safe sex practices should start at home. Parents are failing miserably at this.
