Ok my girl is reading on her Ukrainian sites and over worries about EVERYTHING! So the new thing is now that in Ukraine she is saying that K1 applicants need to take some sort of culture (as in virus) exam, wait 6 weeks, and if it comes back clean she can get approved for her visa after all the other stuff involved. Here's the catch. She's reading that the hospital is showing good examinations but lying about the analysis. Then the doctor stamps her passport with some sort of "non approval" then the girl can basically never get a visa. So now she's frantically worried this is going to happen to her. As if this US consulate approved hospital needs to be paid off in order for the approval to go through. She said that she has read girls who got denied but took the analysis to another doctor and they said there was nothing wrong with it. On top of this, a 6 week wait? Anybody know anything about this? I suggested she get a duplicate travel passport, get her own analysis done, and go from there. That way if some doctor tries to BS her she has a backup travel passport with no denial stamp on it and can tell if the doctor is lying or not. She talks about how the US Consulate changes the rules every time she goes on the site, but yet, when I go on there it always looks the same....Some closure would be nice....thanks

Unless this is a recent change (not likely), it sounds like more of the typical BS that people get from unreliable sources. Check here http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Ukraine&cty=Kiev from VJ or go directly to the U.S. embassy site for Ukraine. You can get better information from VJ or the embassy than she will ever get from "friends".

There is often a lot of baloney given as to things that someone must do before they can get a fiancee visa. Most of the time it is intended to discourage people or to extract money that is not needed to be paid.

Do more legitimate research!good.gif

ok, there is how it goes...

The medical examination consists of the following components: Tuberculin Skin Test for all children ages 2-14,chest X-Ray for adults ages 14 and older, blood test for syphilis for adults only, general physical examination, and vaccinations.

Applicants who have a chest X-Ray suggestive of tuberculosis, signs and symptoms of tuberculosis

should provide three sputum specimens to undergo microscopy for AFB, as well as culture for Mycobacteria Tuberculosis
Laboratory examination for tuberculosis disease will consist of at least three sputum specimens, which will
undergo microscopy for AFB as well as culture for Mycobacteria Tuberculosis. Specimens reported as negative
will be cultured for a minimum of 6 weeks, with a final report available within 8 weeks of collection. Positive Mycobacteria Tuberculosis cultures will undergo Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST) for first-line TB medications.
DST results will be available within 10 weeks of sputum collection.
Positive cultures that are resistant to first-line TB drugs will undergo drug susceptibility testing on second-line tuberculosis medications.

So really she has nothing to worry about, unless she has tuberculosis...

This is another unfortunate example of Ukrainian hysteria. Her friends and others will give her all kinds of incorrect information throughout this process. They have this tendency to create rumors, pass them around and believe in them. Perhaps a byproduct from times when the authorities were lying and everyone knew it and had to get information from other sources. I guarantee you she's heard many strange and untrue things about life in America too.

The only thing new about the medical test is it costs more as of April 1. She can call them and get more info if she's still worried.

She will get results on day of exam after 3PM. If she tests positive for TB, then who knows. State Dept will not let active case of TB enter US without starting treatment..

Read the medical info from the Embassy site, it explains everything:

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ukraine/895/pdf/medic_imm_eng.pdf

If your fiance doesn't understand English, there's a Ukrainian version:

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ukraine/895/pdf/medic_imm_ukr.pdf

That is the only official information. Everything you hear from friends or strangers or anyone on the street is hearsay and should not be trusted.

They still give the results that same day at 3pm for adults. If the X-ray shows suspicions of tb, then they will need to do more tests which will take some more time.

For children that do not get an X-ray and do a skin test, the results are available in about 3 days.

Mike, make sure she is talking to legitimate officials. I've heard horror stories of people hanging out outside the Consulate pretending to be officials and they are just scammers trying to get some cash or whatever. Have her see identification of officials. If they are legitimate, they won't be offended by this request. Good luck, Dave
