When you call and your case hasn't yet been received by the NVC they will invariably tell you to wait 15 business days. That's a standard answer. DON'T listen to them. Feel free to call every day. I've had many variations of the wait statement: wait a couple of weeks, wait 10-15 days, wait 15 business days, even wait 15-20 business days. Again, DO NOT listen to that. Beginning a week after your NOA2, call every day until they have your number.

When I got my number it was on the 8th calendar day, 6th business day. They told me the case had been received but not yet processed and to call back in a few days. I asked if they'd assigned the country specific case number, in my case MNL, and they said "sure, we have that" and they could give it to me. Once they've received your case they immediately assign a case number.

The process is yours, not theirs. The people on the phone know less about the process than folks here on VJ. Sad, but true. Drive the process as hard and as fast as you can, once you have the NOA2 in hand.

Good luck to everyone.

Couldn't agree more! Good luck!

Do you give them the receipt number that USCIS gives you or the alien number that is on the NOA2? unsure.png

I gave them the receipt number.

After reading everyone's post, it seems like NVC receives the files not in a chronological order. Some files are received within 7 days while some are not received in almost 2 weeks. Secondly, I thought they would assign a case number upon receiving the file but it doesn't happen to everyone. Thirdly, it seems like K1 files are received and assigned a case number way faster than IR1 cases. Kind of interesting.

You are all very fortunate to have your files get to NVC so quickly, I have been waiting a month already and there is still no sign of my file at NVC. I hate all of this dam waiting isnt waiting 400 days for an NOA2 long enough.

Damn... I think you have the longest way for the NOA2 (more than 1 year) as well as the NVC case number (almost 1 month). I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck! You might try to contact Department of State @ (202) 663-1225.

I just called NVC and got our case # and invoice #. What should I do from here with that information?

Are you sure you have invoice #? I thought that is not for K1 visa. Am i missing anything?

I just asked for both and she gave me both. I'm really not sure but we are applying for a fiancee visa.

YES! Keep calling. I called EVERYDAY until our packet arrived. We too received our NOA2 on April 19! We got a case number yesterday (April 29). I had called Friday, nothing. If you don't call, they absolutely don't care. They won't notify you until your packet is sent to USEM and your fiancé receives a letter. That could take weeks, if not months. Once your packet gets to the NVC, it's quick turn. They'll have it shipped out to the USEM (US Embassy Manila) in no time...usually 2 to 3 days. You can really get the ball rolling when you get your NVC case number, so stay on it! Good luck guys! :-)

I am a K-1 petitioner with a NOA date of 4/20.

I do not understand this at all. Please clarify how calling and obtaining a case number speeds the process up.

I also see a bunch of info posted on this site about other action we should take at the NVC stage, forms, payment etc.

I know some of the statistics posted on this site in the "Immigration Timeline" section are not accurate. However, when I review those statistics they do not reflect a big time dump at the NVC stage....

Please help. Been waiting for months already and want to move this along to the Bangkok consulate without more delay.

Thx

I received my NOA2 on the 19th April and mine arrived at the NVC this week and was sent to the embassy today 1st May - should go pretty quick! Good luck!

Did you call NVC to expedite?

My NOA2 is April 24th and I just called today. They told me the same thing too that it takes 15 business days for our file to arrive. However, looking at many VJers' timelines, it seems more like 7-10 business days. Anyways, what can we do after receiving that NVC case number??

This is what I am trying to figure out too. My lawyer says do nothing, NVC will send to embassy without our action.

For some people it's just a case of knowing where their file is and that it's been actioned.

For others, like UK beneficiaries, having the case number means that you can book the medical (with the proviso that you don't want you medical results to reach the US Embassy in London before your case does from NVC!).

Yes, it is embassy specific...for the Philippines as well, the case # is almost worth it's weight in gold, as you can then pay for and schedule an embassy interview and go to do the medical exams without having to wait for the file to reach the embassy.

Check your regional forum embassy guides for more information, as I only know my fiancee's countries' steps (I'm selfish that way).

Wow, thanks for info. I will try to figure out if having hte case # helps me expedite process in Thailand.

Thank you. That helps me a lot. I am so envious to hear that with the case # you can get interview scheduled and med exam rolling in the Phillipines.

I guess I am still a bit confused about some of the stuff I have seen on here about the calling process to NVC actually gets NVC to do something.

p.s. Did you get hard copy of the NOA 2 in mail yet? I dont' have mine and neither does my lawyer. I am a 4-20 NOA 2 approval like you.
