hi, is this guide on first 2 posts are only for Spouse? I'm looking for something like this but for IR5 (parents). thx

An IR-5 visa is extremely similar to an IR-1/CR-1 visa, so everything posted in the first two posts will apply to your case. The only difference is in the IV package where there are a few petitioner documents needed in IR-5 cases. I believe I've made a note about it in the FAQ when I listed the documents.

Well, right now, the AOS bill is taking a bit to be invoiced. And the IV is only invoiced after the DS-3032 has been approved. If yours was just approved today, it's still going to be a few more days.

Thank you Saylin. I am worried because my case is assigned in Guangzhou, China. I emailed the OPTIN before I got my AOS invoice. In NVC OPTIN thread, it says that for Guangzhou, China, DO NOT optin before getting ds3032 and AOS bill. I really don't know what is gonna happen.......

You can only wait and see. Hopefully in the two-ish years since that bit was included in the guides, NVC has gotten better. If not, you can expect delays like other members went through when we first discovered this...

I am not familar with opt in option. What are you opt in for? I would appericate your guidance.

It has to do with Electronic Processing of cases through the NVC (i.e. emailing documents and forms instead of mailing them). However, Electronic Processing is not available for Pakistan cases so it does not apply to you.

If they received your package last week, it could be any day now. Just keep calling once a day and you'll soon get it!

Well, I included a link (in reference to additional applicable documents) to NVC's site on documents needed for the IV package. I'll edit it now to reflect IR-5 cases.

This is all VERY good information and I'm finding it very helpful. However, I've noticed some of the information in the FAQs Saylin posted and instructions on the "LingChe NVC Shortcut" page contradict each other.

For example, the FAQs in this thread say to get your IIN from the NVC operator and email your DS-3032 as soon as you get your NVC Case Number. However, LingChe says, "It is no longer possible to obtain your IIN from an operator," and "Attempts to mail or email DS-3032 before it's been generated are useless."

Which one is correct? I'm inclined to think that the FAQs posted in this thread are up to date, but it seems everyone refers to the LingChe guide so I just want to be sure which to follow since I will be calling NVC this week to start getting information on my case.

The FAQ is the one that's up to date. I'm glad you brought this up though because I too got confused with all the guides.. I think the lingche guide needs to be either erased, updated, or include some sort of warning.

Edit: I just looked at it and saw that it does include a warning that says: THIS GUIDE DOES NOT REPLACE THE NEED TO READ ALL OTHER INSTRUCTIONS!

but.. there are tons of guides here on VJ. I actually think that having TOO much information is making the process even more confusing. James shortcuts are also extremely outdated. Of course I'm extremely grateful for all the wonderful people at VJ providing all this useful information.. but I think it is high time for some updates/modifications to the guides. Better yet, there should just be one link, and it should be to the first two posts of these monthly threads.

And since I'm on the topic, I'd like to point out that under the header "US Citizen and Spouse both live/reside overseas:" there is only ONE link and that is for DCF that is no longer available in the majority of countries! I guess I should go post all of this on the VJ section that is dedicated for suggestions on improvements to the site..

Unfortunately, some guides are outdated (Lingche and James for example) with certain information. I assure you, the FAQ is more up to date in this manner as I put it together a few short months ago, and review it every time I post a new monthly thread.
