If they have your petition now, then definitely keep calling once a day as now is more important than ever.

If you don't call and if they don't have any email addresses on file, then they'll have no choice but to snail mail the first package out with the case numbers and this can take weeks to receive. You definitely want to be on top of things right now, so that as soon as a case number is assigned, you can give over both email addresses to receive all packages from NVC by email.

Alrighty! I had sent them an email last week trying to figure out what was going on, so they at least have my email address. I didn't know we could do all these packages via email! The nvc shortcut guide had me thinking we would both have to mail our packages out. This is beautiful though!

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

YOU have to do it via mail

Only select countries have electronic processing. UK is not one of them. They will email you, but you have to physically mail them.

No, no, no, you misunderstood me. Giving them both email addresses over the phone will prompt NVC emailing YOU the packages. You can't email NVC any packages. Just a one way street for non-EPers. But, it still shaves off days/weeks from receiving those packages by snail mail.

And sending them an email inquiring about what's going on isn't the same as actually giving over both email addresses to an operator as they won't store that email in their database, especially when a case number isn't assigned. So, no, they don't have your email address on file. They SOMETIMES have it on file already from a G-1145 submitted with the I-130, but it's a hit and miss. We had submitted a G-1145 with our I-130 petition, but they didn't have my husband's email address on file when I called.

Got the NOA2 in the mail. Husband called NVC helpline almost everyday. So far, they haven't got our case number so we're still waiting. We got approved on May 3. is it normal to wait this long? It's been almost 2 weeks and I am anxious!

Go do some yoga. Breathe.

Call once a day to get your case numbers or every second day. They do record how often you call.

It'll be okay. I promise but ya need to relax. It's not good for your health. Be happy that your file got to the NVC so quickly. :)

Getting a case number in 2 weeks would be considered fast right now. Was your I-130 approved at a local office? Many approved there are waiting a month just for the case to be shipper out to NVC. Have you called USCIS to confirm the case has been sent out yet? If the case hasn't been sent out, there's no point calling NVC until they do.

Nothing to worry about. Case numbers take awhile to assign, even once the files have been received at NVC. Just keep calling once a day, it'll be assigned soon yes.gif

Just received this response from NVCResearch:

Please be advised that the National Visa Center (NVC) contacted U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) in regards to your approved petition. USCIS has informed us that your petition will be retained at the (SAN ANTONIO FIELD OFFICE - SNA). Please contact USCIS at 800-375-5283 or visit their web site at www.uscis.gov for additional information.

What does that mean???

Why would the local office retain my petition instead of send it to NVC? It's been almost 7 weeks since the approval.

They told us that, too. In our case it probably meant that they were having a supervisor look over it to make sure it was properly approved. It could also mean they are retaining it until they make their big box to ship off the the NVC. It doesn't necessarily mean they are looking at your case unfavorably.

Do an infopass at San Antonio and talk to them.

If I could take a day off to drive 5 hours back and forth to San Antonio, I would.

They told us that, too. In our case it probably meant that they were having a supervisor look over it to make sure it was properly approved. It could also mean they are retaining it until they make their big box to ship off the the NVC. It doesn't necessarily mean they are looking at your case unfavorably.

I am just now reading all the different situations, including yours, that people had with this response. Mostly good information with positive outcomes.

I read here (old, but still) that USCIC will retain (send to NRC) petitions that will not do consular processing but will file for Adjustment of Status. My mom was in the US at the time I filled I-130, which I indicated on the form. But I also entered the consular post where she will apply and even included a separate letter specifically explaining this and stating that she will continue the application process at the consular post. Now I wonder if someone there latched to her arrival record and concluded she will apply for AOS in the US and sent the case to NRC - even though both the Approval Notice and I-797 say they forwarded it to National Visa Center. This is just my speculation, it may have nothing to do with the fact that she was present in the US at the time of filing.

Just called USCIS and the CSR offered right away to create a service request. After that she wouldn't transfer me to an ISO, so I might call back later to actually talk to someone who can see into our case. The service request may take up to 2 weeks.

The NVC research is washing their hands from our case saying it's now up to USCIS. I asked can not NVC request for the USCIS to transfer the file, they said NO.

The senator's liaison will also call USCIC in San Antonio (hopefully) today to see what's going on. She also found out that San Antonio office sent their "big box to NVC" on Friday 10 days ago, so our case was obviously not in it.

I am going through this process with my mom, who is, for the most part, completely clueless about how it works. So, in that sense, it's stressful figuring it out on my own with the help of you guys here. And she'll get here when she gets here. But, I can't even imagine how much more stressful, in a different way, it is when filing for a spouse and counting months/weeks/days till you can see eachother again.

Contact Suzanne at John Cornyn's office immediately if you are not already working with her (you will have to go to his website and download and fax in the privacy consent form). I believe you're correct about the "send to NRC" thing. I thought my case was an anomaly. But Houston local offie reported to Suzanne that my file was sent to the NRC through an error in handling, and they apologized and had to retrieve the file. She is familiar with this situation from me and other Houston filers. This is getting ridiculous.
