The scam - They will hack or find a way to gain access to one of your newly imigrated spouses social or IM accounts. In our case it was QQ the most popular social network in China. The will take advantage of the time differnance between the US and their home contry. While you are aslleep they will contact anyone online and posing as you or your spouse or a friend that your spouse gave access to the account and tell them there is an emergancy and ask them to please send money asap to the scammers account and they will try and withdraw the money before we are awake to do anything about it.

My wife has been in the US for just about a month now and this happend to us yesterday and to a friend of hers that was last week. So please let your family and freinds know that this may happen so make sure they check with you before sending any money.

My fiancee and I use QQ to communicate on a daily basis so thanks for this info. Luckily, she never has nor ever will ask me for money as her and her family are well off.

1. is great idea to change password after arrival, on a pc that neither of you have touched before, say at a library or university computer lab

2. is common scam, not limited to qq. yahoo, hotmail, outlook, have all had this problem.

3. good on you for catching it !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

QQ has no security! Anyone can go online and ask to reset a QQ account password and tell them you forgot. When they ask you for extra information to prove who you are, just say you don't have it and they will reset your password.
