Vermont Service Center - What's going on!

Threads like this are both worrying and really helpful for me. My UK citizen fiance and I are getting married in 5 weeks, and after months of lurking around VJ, I'm finally assembling documentation and getting ready to file for a CR-1. I live in Boston, so Vermont woes are on my horizon. It's distressing to see that the process is slowing down, but it's great to have my expectations set -- both for duration and for what actions I should take at which points. The 5 month trigger mentioned by QueenOfBlades is something I'll definitely be keeping in mind. Wishing you all the very best of luck, and I'll be looking for ways to help light a fire under VSC!

I'm glad you find it helpful. Remember to always check on USCIS' website for their official processing times. It varies for each type of petition. When you're outside of that processing time, get on their case and contact your representatives. It states on USCIS' website that you are able to file a service request when you are outside of their "normal processing times".

It's also very frustrating, but important to keep in mind that the processing dates are updated effective the end of a month, but not posted until about 45 days later. So the next update should be posted around may 15th but it will be effective as of end of march. Since they didn't start slowing until a couple of weeks ago, I'm afraid the next update may still say "5 months" Edited by 2far

I hope it does say 5 months and stay at 5 months. As long as it is, anyone past it will be eligible to file a service request and take action. The last thing anyone wants is for them to extend it or do the whole CSC "July 18th" syndrome.

And to think VJ users advised me against marrying my fiancee this summer in Korea opting for the I-130 route b/c chances of a longer wait...maybe we would've drawn CSC that time..hah. But if the doomsday predictions I've been seeing today come to fruition, then maybe the K3 wouldn't have been such a bad idea.

Keep up the faith! Our petition was sent in August 2012 and we received the NOA2 7 months later in Feb 2013 from the Vermont Service center. You'll get a response, as frustrating as the system can be, don't lose hope. Best of luck.

No, not exactly true. Anyone past the processing date is eligible to file a service request. A number of vermont filers have reported the processing date is October 1st. When ever the processing time is 5 months USCIS does not publish the processing date, you have to call USCIS to get the processing date.

Yes,

I have a appointment with my Congressman, I get "5 mins" of his time in May. I expect lip service, but at least I am doing something to rattle some cages. I also feel it's productive to share thoughts on here and figure out if anyone finds anything even close to legroom in moving the process forward. I am tired of the "call your congressman, call your senator" I have done this, anymore ideas while VSC keeps digging a deeper hole and CSC moves back to 3-4 month approvals?

I think it helps to allow the VSC people to vent on here just as the CSC people did for months...

You might be surprised...I met and spoke with a Congressman from a different state and within five hours I was talking to his immigration specialist. She in turn made an inquiry and connected me with someone at my Congresswoman's office who filed an inquiry within a day. They do respond.

My fiance' who is in the military called on Friday to check up on our case since we are Nov filers and passed 5 months April 13. He was told he could not file a service request because the new time frame is 6 months and then only can he file. Yes I was furious and since I am not allowed to call and will be given no info unless he is on the line and we conference call. So... VSC is drastically dropping in numbers and now we need to really do something before they completely stop processing.

This is true. If you go on the USCIS processing section of their page you see that their goal to complete each case is 5 months. They say however that it will be finished in 6 months, and their average time is 7 months for an approval. They haven't gotten to the point of reaching their goal on a frequent basis. I found all this info on the USCIS website where you can check the status of your case. My case was processed in 7 months exactly. Best of luck to you all.

Well, I just compared CSC to VSC, counting the number of NOA2s only for the month of APRIL. CSC was 349, VSC was 64!. But CSC is also processing 129f's from June, July and August backlog. Some people have been waiting for 10 months. I hope VSC filers don't get stuck in a log jam.

They have to speed up. At this rate, they'll develop such a backlog that 2013 filers won't be done before 10-12 months.
