Hi guys,

I am a US Citizen, filing I-130 for my parents who live in India. I had 2 questions related to filing.

1. Should I mail the application in one envelope with separate checks and a single cover sheet? I believe this is true but just wanted to confirm.

2. Should I file for my parents when they visit me in US (so that the processing happens in US and not at an embassy) or while they are still in India. I am concerned that if I file for them while they are in India, they may have problems visiting me in the US on a tourist visa while the application is being processed. Is that true? Is there any benefit to waiting for them to visit me in the US before filing?

Anything else I should be aware of before I file? I finally got their marriage certificate which was the last document I needed.

Thanks in advance everyone for your replies - I appreciate it.

You can mail application in one envelop with separate I 130 and separate Checks and documents. Just to be safe add two documents for each I 130.

Do your parents have tourists visa? How old are they? Sometimes it is hard to get tourists visa once you applied for I 130.

stlMac - Thanks for your response.

My parents are in their mid 60s. They have tourist visa which is valid till 2020, so getting a new visa is not going to be a concern. I'm worried they might be turned back once they land in US since their application will be in process.

Tourists visas are for visiting not emigrating.

Have you investigated Health Insurance?

Yes, I know Tourist visa is non-immigrant visa. The previous post had inquired about it, and I was just responding to it.

As for health insurance - I really haven't given it too much thought, but I will pay whatever is needed to get insurance for them.
