From what I can collect from the forums, it seems that processing times for NBC applicants (NOA1 receipts starting with MSC) vary depending on which local office the petition was transferred to.

You can check how swamped your local office is by going to this link ---> http://dashboard.uscis.gov

It seems if your local office is not located near a metropolitan area, your application will get processed faster because they have less applications to go through. On the link provided, you can view volume charts for your field office.

The chart usually consists of the following 3 pieces of data:

  • Receipts
  • Completions
  • All other pending

I am a little confused on how to interpret this data. Does "all other pending" mean the backlog of I130s at the office? Because when our petition gets transferred, shouldn't it fall under "receipts"? Because, if that's the case, then you can find the approval ratio of the offices by dividing the number of receipts per month by the number of completions per month and average it out over the months (the closer it is to 1, the better). For example, my field office, Washington, received 779 applications on Feb 2013, and completed 595 applications. So their completion ratio is 0.76 which, is not bad. But if our i130s fall into 'all other pending' documents as well, then the ratio becomes 0.11.

Summing up if its just receipts and completions we are dealing with then the Washington field office is operating at 76% efficiency, but if we include all other pendings, then its at 11% efficiency.

Maybe data like this can help us predict how long we can expect to wait.

Just my thoughts. Thanks for reading.

Cheers.

I assume our file went to the Denver Field Office but we never called so I cannot confirm. But it took longer than the 2 months that NBC normally takes.

We were sent to our local field office (Baltimore). Our NBC NOA1 date was 12/21/2012. I got a notice on 3/20/2013 saying i had an interview at the local office on April 24, 2013 and I was approved the same day. So from NOA1 to NOA2 was 4 months for us, including a standard interview. I was quite satisfied with that since i have seen so many people waiting 6-12 months to get an approval.
