On Thursday night I was picking 2 of the boys up from a play. While we were driving home I saw a girl on a bike and a car following right behind her in the bike lane. It struck me as odd so I did not pass.

The girl turned around and something about the look on her face told me something was not right. She crossed the road and turned down a side street. The car followed. I kept going but about half a block later I felt a need to turn around. I turned around and followed them. She had already gotten about 2 blocks so was obviously going fast. I followed for about 5 blocks. The girl finally rode into a yard and the car followed into the driveway.

At that point i thought I was being silly and left thinking it was probably her parents or friends.

My son got the plate number on the car and we jokingly said write it down we might need it.

We did.

Casey's son called me today and asked me if my son still remembered it, he did. He said there were posters up by his school that the girl was missing. At first I thought he was kidding but he was not. Sure enough I went to see the poster and it was the same face I saw when she turned around on her bike.

I retraced where I drove and called the number on the sign.

She is in grade 8. Super kid, A student. Tuesday she skipped school, Wednesday she took off. Thursday I saw her.

Her dad is beside himself and the cops say she is a runaway so there is nothing they can do.

I gave him all the info we had. He went to the house just to make sure there were no girls her age living there. There are not. It is an older lady. She said she probably came to the door because there were lights on. I called the police and gave them the info.

Damn. Why didn't I stay and make sure she was ok? I feel terrible. I should have listened to my gut. :(

Oh gosh, how awful. You did what you thought the situation warranted and kept an eye on her. I probably would of thought the same as you once I seen her enter the front yard and the car turn into the driveway after her. You can't beat yourself up over it. At least you have been able now to give information and a licence number.

I hope they find her soon.
