My fiancé has worked on farms since he was 11 years old doing general labor and harvesting coffee and so on....it is a poor, rural area where people mostly subsistence farm. He works for different families all the time. Would I write in farm laborer as his occupation? And would he be considered "self-employed"? He barely earns anything for his work, but I feel it would be an insult to put in NONE for employment just because he is not officially hired by someone as he has worked harder than anyone I know to help provide for his large family.

Hello, my fiance is also from costa rica and does the same type of work as yours. He does all kinds of work. from farmimng, building, restoration, mechanic, painter; basically an all around handy man. So i put him as a general laborer. He doesnt have a steady income, he buys and sells cows, gives people estimates on jobs hes offered and hes paid cash. A general loborer is the best way I was able to describe my fiancee

Thanks so much!! It seems like such a simple question but rather hard to answer. He does more work than anyone I know yet it is hard to get it recognized.

I know, this is a difficult country, lacking physical addresses for the mailing system, not many stable job or titles or that matter, I have difficult with internet and phone access (his location is in the mountains) I just received an email that I have been mailed a RFE.. I cant imagine what is missing, but thanking god I had the opportunity to go see him in Costa Rica 2 times since the application was submitted, which I hope really helps my case. Keep me posted about your status.. and best of luck... pura vida :D

Oh goodness. I see they made you wait 8 months for NOA2. =( Kind of silly that they say 5 months when it is nowhere near accurate. I'm really hoping mine goes quickly. I plan on sending 1-129F on Monday.

I havent received my NOA2 :bonk: they sent me a Request for Evidence yesterday! I have waiting almost 6 months for this RFE.. Now I am waiting to receive the actual letter in the mail to see what information is missing or what type of evidence needs to be sent. I hope that after i send back the needed documents I will get my NOA2  .. Best of luck to you and your fiance. Its a crazy long journey but it will be worth all in the end.

Keep me posted on what happens! Do you have any idea what the RFE might be about? Our situations sound kind of similar. My fiancé is also a country boy and hasn't had the opportunity to go to school since he was 11 years old. I am worried it will be a red flag just because his background seems like someone who just wants to go to the U.S. since he doesn't really have much of anything in Costa Rica, but it totally isn't like that. I really hope it all is ok. I want to get him here now. :(

Honestly, I dont know what the RFE might be about. I really didnt send that much evidence when I first submitted the application. Maybe my taxes, pay stubs, more pictures ( since I only send like 6) honestly... no clue  I wish I knew that way I could get the needed paperwork and send it right back to them!! but I will have to wait for the actual letter in the mail. It was sent the 24th so maybe tomorrow or saturday it will come... I just need to be patient. Dont worry about that.. my fiance is in the same boat! he didnt go to school since he was that age too.. I actually did my fiances GED over the computer to see if he could find a better job in costa rica, i got it notarized and validated for costa rica! I dont know if that will cause problems I have no idea! but we will see i guess.. I dont think there lack of schooling will have anything to do with their applications, it just proves that there were born to be good workers  I will keep you posted about my RFE, and see what it is they are requesting. BTW what part of Costa Rica is your hubby from? For all that we know theyre neighbors lol
